RE: Episode 6 Discussion
I can't help feeling disappointed with this series so far, particularly with the writers approach to Lucas's character . They have hired a very talented actor in RA but are giving him very little to do. As many of you have pointed out the affair with SC feels very false. RA can really "do" romance (see N&S) but has some really bad scenes to act with SC. His other dialogue is also pretty ropey eg tonight "I think they are sending him (Baisley) a message" - pleeeese!! His only good line was "the faeces of dogs" one.
Roz, on the other hand, is getting some good activity and lines, eg Sadam Hussain "regular saver?". I particularly liked her psychotic preamble to the stringing up of the banker. She also is allowed to be funny despite her emotional difficulties. They are not allowing Lucas any faintly gallows humour and he is becoming just dour and even, though it goes against the grain to say this, boring. It does not bode well for series 9 particularly if/when HN does leave, unless they do something to make the Lucas character more attractive. RA is capable of doing this if allowed to do so by the creative team. He was given far more scope in Series 7. But Roz will be missed as will the HS. They are also going to have to try to vary Ruth's interjections of new information, which usually begins with "Harry....". Thank goodness for Tariq who seems to be carrying off the 'geek speak' with aplomb. |
