The main reason I think there'll be a S9 is that the press Kudos has released these last few weeks seem to indicate lots of loose ends. I honestly can't see them ending it on a cliffhanger.

The fact they haven't announced yet is not so significant. Last year they only announced the renewal a few days before the finale. That gives them 9 days or so.
