RE: What other TV do you watch? (2)
Did anyone see Page Eight last night with Bill Nighy and Rachel Weiss? It got some mixed comments on Twitter but on the whole it was extremey good. Brilliant cast of course, there are few finer actors around at the moment who are better than Bill Nighy. Watching it made me think that maybe Kudos is right to call a halt to Spooks, because there seems to be a new genre of Spy thrillers being made which are more Le Carre in atmosphere. Whereas Spooks has become less credible over the past three series, Page Eight seemed more poignant.
'The Hour' which has just finished, also had an underlying spy theme. It too, despite some dodgy script writing in places, had an edgier, elegant feel to it. Good acting too. |

I did see it Naivety, I actually started another thread, as I didnt see this one! I really liked it, my only negative was Bill Nighy, for me he looked uncomfortable and awkward, I am sure he was suppose to be, I just didnt like it.
However, I do agree with your comments about new spy drama's and that they are possibly moving away from the action that Spooks brings....my only wish is that they find a role for PF, I think he would have been great in the Bill Nighy role! |

Yes, PF would have been great in that role, but I doubt if he would do another spy thriller. He strikes me as an actor who would avoid stereo typing as much as possible. As for Bill Nighy, he usually plays a hesitant character, it's his particular style. Even in 'Love, Actually' when he plays the old rock star, you get that hesitancy.

I'm rewatching the Danish series The Killing, which is excellent - well written, wonderful ensemble cast and treats the audience as adults with an attention span of longer than a gnat. Also have watched and rewatched Wallander about 3 times and am heartbroken each time at the end of Series 1. Looking forward to S10 Spooks and the second series of The Killing.

Good acting too. BBC America is playing The Hour right now. I like your description of it. I'm enjoying it. We are only up to E2 though so it is still building. Anna Chancellor's just has to factor in more than she does so far? BBCA is moving on to S2 of Luther, Whitechapel and State of Play. All of which I am totally excited to see! (For anyone interested: http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/440/index.jsp) About freakin' time too. With the exception of Top Gear, Dr Who and Graham Norton, BBCA's has been falling down on the job. There is only so much Gordon Ramsey one can stomach! (pun intended....) Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

I'm still waiting for the second series of The Killing, the Danish drama which showed on BBC4 - fantastic writing and acting even if, in the end and on reflection, the whole thing didn't hang together properly. It was wonderful to find something that treated the audience as adults with an attention span longer than 30 seconds.
Oh and also absolutely loving and giggling lots at the new series of Outnumbered - fab |

Is anyone else watching strike back season 2? Or am i the only one? Yes I know that Richard Armitage isn't in it ( which im gutted about!) but it isn't that bad. Also started getting into Torchwood! Hope they make another series of that. I think John Barrowman is great as Captain Jack.

Watched 2.1 of Luther last night on BBC America. Brutal! Idris Elba is just incredible.
