Gratuitous use of the word 'LIKE'.
Please say that it isn't just me, but do other people find the habit of prefixing every other word in a sentence with the word 'like' maddening?
Why can't people just describe something concisely and leave it at that? How can something be 'like green' or 'like funny'? Things either are or they aren't. It's driving me mental. Still, I am in good company as Emma Thompson was banging on about the same subject in a recent interview. Seems that even girls at posh boarding schools do it now!

However the good people of the Spooks Forum seem to have their head around grammar and a structured sentence. I do despair that in 10 years time in the UK, all the grown-ups are going to sound like a cross between the cast of Friends and the cast of Neighbours (don't get me going on rising intonation!). No offence to anyone from the US or Oz as those of you here seem to have a better grasp of English than a native.

There, feel better now, rant over.Smile

No it's not just you Watchstrap! This drives me completely bananas as well. I'm going to sound 'like' a grump. It's a whole new accent that has developed in 10 years. Used mainly here in Ireland where I reside, by the affluent southside set of Dublin teenagers with what we call mid-atlantic accents.

Insert as many 'loikes' as you can in a sentence, in tamden with 'you know loike', or 'loike you know, Oh my God, loike'.
