Series 10 Rumours & Speculation

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
I think (hope) that Harry's inquest is only going to be a catalyst, not the concentration of S10. Endless inquest scenes would get very boring very quickly. What they did with Zoe's inquest worked rather well but only for one episode not 6!

Couldn't agree more. Who'd want to see Harry in handcuffs, clad only in boiler suit, all disheveled looking, standing in the dock for more than one hour?!! Silba

Haha, I may wear two pairs of contact lenses just to make sure I don't miss anything Big Grin

As for court cases, they can be done well. More often than not when they don't involve endless flashbacks and the story keeps moving forward. Maybe with the Inquiry as the B plot to the main threat of the week. I can't see them having it as the main story. I would treasure some Harry and Towers moments though in court. The few scenes we had in S9 were great to watch.

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
After all the speculation I wouldn't be surprised if they axed the whole court thing completely and one of the initial scenes is someone wondering where Harry is only for him to stroll back into Thames House after a meeting with Towers and he simply says that everything is fine and can they all please get on with....insert latest terrorist subject here.

All the stuff we already know about the new characters and Russian involvement may simply be storylines that have nothing to do with the delving into Harry's past in reference to the Albany affair but just the normal stuff that comes up every so often about a characters past in general.

It could still have something to do with Lucas after all. Just how 'good' a British officer was he during those 8 years in a russian prison?

Wow! Intriguing! I like it! Maybe the Russians found out more than we'd thought. Cool.

I think they'd have to investigate Harry, but I agree, I'd rather it not the main weekly plot (okay, maybe one episode for Tea Lady). Let's get on with the story and get Harry back to the Grid.

Hmmm...on second thought...? Thud

Nope, I'm sticking to my guns. As enticing as the thought of a disheveled Harry clad only in boiler suit and handcuffs is, I am much more interested in seeing a disheveled Harry clad only in black jacket and jeans out in the field. I would get really bored with 6 episodes of Harry on trial, even as a B plot.

I suppose it could. But I don't think it will. If I'm honest, I hope it doesn't. At least not as a primary focus.

I do believe they will have to reference Albany and what happened to Lucas, but no more than they have ever referenced any past (read: dead) character or series arc from S1-9. What I would like to see is at most use the aftermath of Albany/Lucas and Harry's inquiry as a catalyst into the rest of the season. I believe that something is going to come up during the inquest that will require Harry to go on one "last" operation, maybe even a black op. His superiors are going to "throw him out into the cold" and use him for all he's worth regardless of the consequences for Harry, personally and professionally. Whether or not it will end up being his last operation - as in is he killed or retired or decommissioned or imprisoned - remains to be seen.

I think there is a reason they gave Towers the phrase they gave him in the last scene of S9. Esp. because it was so clearly and afterthought and the bridge into S10. I think it is a tip of the hat to le Carre and the Cold War.

Although I do agree that it is possible that they will skip the actual inquiry or at least show only a bit of it.

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
I'm wondering about the bit in Ian Wylie's blog that states that a secret from Harry's past will threaten to destroy him and those close to him.

Who can be classified as being close to Harry? I mean, at this point he isn't even close to Ruth. Does this mean his kids may get a showing? Or does it refer to the team on the Grid perhaps?

I agree with A Cousin's interpretation. The way that press release is worded makes it sound like Harry is on the Grid when the closer cooperation with Russia takes place, and that he must use contacts from his past to establish that closer cooperation. So perhaps one or two episodes dealing with the secret from his past, before we move on to the Russian story?

Maybe the secret will be revealed during the Inquiry and has something to do with the Russians, Harry is cleared and goes back to the Grid, but now the Russians know that Harry is the one who did whatever the secret is, and will want revenge. They pretend to work more closely with the team whilst actually setting them up for something, hence the threat to those close to Harry.

I don't know. I didn't read it that Harry "had" to be back on the Grid to use past contacts. Harry could be suspended or even sacked (as a ruse) and make contact with past shadows.

As for the "close" comment, clearly that has been thrown in to make us all speculate especially as Ruth's name is in the next sentence so it reads almost like, well it can't be Ruth they are talking about then as the one who is close to Harry. Would they really use Ruth's relationship with Harry again, to get at Harry? Maybe those "close" would be destroyed, not by the bad guys, but just because Harry is not the man they thought he was. Then again, didn't they deal with that with the Albany affair?

I think they could bring Harry's children into it. That certainly would be a good storyline and more credible than bringing his ex-wife into it, as some have suggested one of the new characters will play. Not sure what on earth his ex-wife would have to do with something bad Harry did in his past. Could it be about his brother Ben? I think the "secret" has to be something to do with Harry's close family or friends or former colleagues. If it was just some random black op that he was involved in many moons ago, I can't quite see anyone really caring now in Section D and that includes Ruth.

That is kind of more what I had in mind. I wonder if his superiors will send him on an op off the grid while he is ostensibly suspended or sacked. Or not. It could work either way. I just want Harry back in the field for a while using the good old fashioned Cold War spy-craft.

On a side note, I'd like to see Dimitri kicking some a** too. I have always thought that there is a bit of young Harry in him. It would be cool to see that developed.

Caroline Carver is still out there working. I thought she did a very good job in 3.3 and I have always wanted to see her again. I confess I am a little stumped by the term "close." It could just mean work colleagues, e.g. the people he physically sees everyday. He is about as close to them emotionally and geographically as he is to anybody.

I also confess that I have no idea what this "secret" could be. Harry has done and seen so much, what's left that wouldn't be business as usual? But, that is the writers/Producers job and not mine. I do still think that they will make up something brand new. I think the mention of the secret is as much of a tease as the comment about those that are close to Harry. It sends us rabid fans scurrying to the books and Harry's know in-canon past but it leaves the other 6M viewers out of the loop.
