RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
I do not want to stir up a hornet's nest. But perhaps after 10 years and now that he has only one child under 18 (I hope I have the right info), PF might want to leave and get involved with new shows. We really do not know why Kudos has not yet announced an 11th series. BBC funding cuts might explain the end of Spooks. We know that NW will stay in Spooks as long as Kudos wants her. PF is Spooks as Kudos knows too well. What worries me a bit is that PF said that more or less all the topics have been covered in Spooks. Is it his opinion or that of the writers/producers?

Kudos has no reason to not make the announcement it would be in their interest to do so to create hype as they have done with Hustle. I firmly believe Peter and sam vincent that no decision has been made and it will perhaps rest on viewing figs ( so get people watching folks!) kudos may also be deciding if they can find material for another series. I'm with you A Cousin and loladom in waiting for an official announcement from Kudos before I really believe S10 will be the last. Though after the amount of hints we've seen until now I would be more surprised of there being a series 11 than not. (Also it would depend on the outcome of series 10 whether I would like to watch a series 11 at all but that's a different thing to discuss…) Quote: I do not want to stir up a hornet's nest. I think in every interview I've read or heard PF has always emphasised that he'd like to continue with Spooks for as long as it went and support for his children doesn't just cease because they're 18, though I'd like to think that he likes to play Harry Pearce not only to be on the safe side financially. However I hardly think it would depend on PF's commitment whether Kudos and/or the BBC decide to have a series 11 or not. They would really have to think this through and consider the amount of people who think that PF or rather Harry "is" Spooks (and I'm counting myself in there) but after all Kudos have never done what people were expecting so they could just put up to the challenge and try to prove they can keep up the quality without the established actors (Again the question whether I'd like to watch it and I'm quite sure I would not) And as for topics and plots which have been used I think good writers could come up with a twist which could make this all interesting again. Every crime series must have this problem as surely almost every murder story has been covered before. Well, we'll just have to wait and see. However when it is announced eventually we will most probably never know why Kudos decided to keep us in the dark about this for so long. |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
In one of his interviews, I think that PF was mostly referring to child support. Believe me, I know all about lifelong financial commitment to one's children.
I am happy to hear that PF wants to stay on Spooks as long as it went. He must really enjoy it even after 10 years. I share your concern, we hope highly improbable, that Kudos might perhaps try a cast of new main characters. I would certainly not watch that "new" Spooks. |

I agree with those who says that Harry IS Spooks but i would even add Ruth's name to it... I think it is THEM that forms the spook's core and i could not continue to watch spooks without them. So for me s11 depends on the outcome of s10...

I wanted to add Ruth's name too, but I did not want to sound too partial. YES, Harry and Ruth have become the core of Spooks, even the press agrees with us.

Can't have Harry without Ruth, she's also at the core of the show and they give us the "Human factor" by having the will they/wont they Agree with beatrice4ruth too, Harry and Ruth are the heart of the show, and the press agree... We still don't know if S10 IS the last Series, everyone seems to point at it other than Kudos, I think we need a confirmation, soon Really would like to know where these reports that S10 is the last are getting their info from You and I...We're made of secrets-Ruth Evershed S10 "If it was up to me and Peter they'd have done it loads by now"- Nicola Walker |

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
Ppl say that the actors don't know if its the end but so often you see on dvds the cast of a long running show getting choked up because they know it is the final scene they will be in together. Can you imagine if the final shot ever filmed in spooks happened to be a romantic moment between Harry and Ruth. Since PF and NW are obviously such good friends in real life the emotion trapped in that scene and when they called cut would be incredible! What a brilliant extra to have PF n NW talking about their final scene...

I think they are waiting for the ratings of this series to see if they should renew it. they should bring back Zoe.

I guess the Guardian's considered a pretty reliable source, eh?

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
Even though such a decision was sort of expected the finality of it all makes me quite sad.
Reading Jane's comments however you can understand why the decision was made and how really brave it was of her to do so. It's nice to know that Spooks was still regarded by the BBC as an ace show even during its 10th season. That is so rare in long running shows, even the best ones, and I think is such a wonderful tribute to the talents over the years who have made the show so incredibly successful. With the final season being still 'in its prime' I think the show is more likely to endure now. It's also nice to think that neither money nor ratings was a raining factor in the decision taken by Kudos. In rather Harry Pearce like fashion the show is keeping faith with its original aim:-to tell a story intelligently and not sacrifice that integrity for the expectations of a money making studio. I really don't think this decision could have been made in America. It seems that the Harry and Ruth story had a lot to do with it (maybe because in so many shows, once the leads become an item the stories lose their spark and driving force: think Bones or even X-Files) anyway its a hopeful thought to the possible future of PF and NW's amazing chemistry...i.e they will finally unite!!! Intriguing quote: 'We've followed the arc of their personal story and I think they've brought us to a natural end" Please let 'natural ending' be a good thing! Please let 'natural end' be a good one It was the wind Ruth... |
