Not sure of the ending for my storyline but this springs to mind. It would become known to that Harry was aware of what was happening to Lucas in Russia as he was receiving information on a private channel but not the aspects of it and importantly the brainwashing aspect was kept hidden. Although hindsight in understanding the event after it has taken place Harry realises now that when Lucas told him he was John Bateman instinct should have told him it was untrue there had to be something else going on but he was always after the "big picture" and of course his thoughts with Ruth.
Harry now sitting in his soon to be vacated office looks at the picture in Lucas's identity wallet knowing that had roles been reversed Lucas would have moved heaven and earth to get to the bottom of what was going on and would have given his life for him in the process if need be such was the person Lucas was.
In three word Harry thought to himself "I failed him"

I like the hostage situation Silktie, that would be great, as we haven't had a decent hostage situation in Spooks for ages (I'm ignoring 8.3).

You just gave me an idea. I like it when they take scientific concepts that have been around for years (e.g. desalinization, genetic research, etc) and take it to the level of someone trying to make it a threat. Another idea would be a threat upon carbon neutral community of BedZED, London. Maybe someone with much more main stream big business bad guys (as Silktie mentions above) energy tries to derail the project for their benefit?

I also just read an article about a Scottish man who has just took part in the first regulated human trial for stem cell stroke treatment. Maybe someone threatens or taints the stem cell supply because they are morally against stem cell research?

Saerwen - this sounds like a great idea for a fan fic. This thread is for plot ideas not character ideas. Besides, Kudos usually lets sleeping dogs lie. Maybe we should too.

Technically it is a plot idea too, it could be possible that there is a plotline in Series 10 that redeems or reverses or puts another twist on the Lucas/Albany storyline. It's always a possibility, so I don't think it should just simply be dismissed as fanfic/character idea.

Tariq needs to get off the Grid, sitting in a truck doesn't really do much, maybe they can have a storyline where Tariq has to infiltrate some tech expo or convention or something.

Maybe there can be an exercise conducted to test Dimitri, Beth, and Tariq's capabilities and loyalties after the whole Lucas-debacle without the three of them knowing it. Like how Tom was tested.

I know the door could be shut on Lucas, but he doesn't need to be physically here for the others to come to realise how much he really was damaged after his return from Russia and the ongoing effects, and that how much his determination to be on The Grid was his internal lifeline.

The plot of having a "ticking" timebomb in your midst and you didn't know it and another with hindsight they should have expected something to happen in whatever fashion with Lucas after all 8 years away the Russians had to be doing something to his mind.

I would like the episode to show the realities of their job and the toll it takes no matter how much they deny it working for MI5.

( if I have strayed off in to character again sorry)

I live in endless, possibly futile, hope of Tariq being allowed out to play even once. I'd like to see some active fulfilment of Harry's "cometh the hour, cometh the geek" promise. Tariq is a perfectly good George Bailey sort of hero character. But I kind of feel as though the show has Ruth for that, and even she gets to go walkabout sometimes. As far as I can remember, Tariq has sat in a van (8.5), sat in a car (8.7), and sat in another van (9.8). Mind you, he did make a pretty spectacular mess of riding a bicycle in 8.2, so maybe confining him to The Grid is for the best Wink

No that's fine Saerwen. The idea of this thread, though, is more to speculate on possible threat of the week stories, rather than on specific character storylines. So perhaps from now on people can discuss those in the various character threads or the Rumours & Speculation thread, and keep this thread to posible threat ideas? Thanks.

My two cents:

1. An enviro group running amok, maybe threatening to cut power supplies?

2. A rogue agent (on "either side") that does use trigger words for his/her actions, and is brainwashed/controlled to assassinate the Home Sec (or similar - and no, I don't want Towers to go). [Maybe they could investigate this further, since they wouldn't with Lucas]

3. You have the Olympics coming. Come ON! Something has to happen here in the preparations.

4. Definitely the student/low socio-economic issues. Time they did a bit of social comment.

They could probably incorporate the recent Wikileaks issue into an episode. Even just a mention would be good.

It must be stirring up quite a bit of trouble with the Americans and i doubt the UK will stay untouched for too long. (Not that i'm a fan of all this but i think it may be worth at least a comment).

The student protests reminded me a bit of 5.2.... i think that's probably part of why i think it would be good to use in series 10 as well. Big Grin

Yeah I thought the whole WikiLeaks scenario would be interesting.

Personally I never understood these websites, I just want to get a baseball bat and smack them. If anything that I have learned from Spooks, some things are classified for a reason.

Maybe there will be some mentions of the conflicts between North and South Korea, that's been heating up a bit recently so it may be interesting.....
