RE: Episode 6 discussion [re-watch]
Neither the computer thing or the Ruth thing bothers me.
I bought the computer thing because the precedent was set for me with the monitoring of Ruth in S2 by Colin as requested by Tom. Wasn't Sam monitored in that way at some point? I could be wrong about that. At work, our IT guy used to use VNC to do remote maintenance. I bought that anyone with the nefarious know-how and desire could do it without being detected. As for the fall out for Harry over the Ruth Evershed Incident, I thought they gave it just enough mention. It is reflected in how hard Harry was with Sally when he demands intel from her a mere 7 minutes after requesting it and again when Neil lies to Sally about secretly being on the grid investigating the RE Incident too. That was plenty for me. It put a finer point on Harry's (and the programme's) ability and necessity to move on to the next emergency. They don't get time to grieve. This is my 1000 post. I thought it appropriate to post in a re-watch thread because these re-watches are what prompted me to de-lurk in the first place! Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

RE: Episode 6 discussion [re-watch]
Extras on the boxset say that they weren't sure about Adam and the nanny relationship when it was first suggested but they decided to keep it in because it showed how vulnerable Adam was after Fiona's death. It wasn't something they thought his character would normally do but emphasised the downward spiral he was suffering from because of the PTSD. Apparently there were many more scenes between the two of them that may have helped to explain it more but those scenes were some of the first to be cut when episodes were edited to fit the hour time slot.

RE: Episode 6 discussion [re-watch]
Thanks for that info Tess24, that definitely makes a bit more sense. Perhaps they should have keep all the scenes in because the idea that it was due to PTSD went right over my head!

(30-01-2011 12:09 PM)Silktie Wrote: Oh, and on a shallow note, I found the leader of the Israeli group quite attractive. Yes I agree Silktie he is quite nice. Sorry, playing catch up again. I really don't like this episode. In fact I find the storyline quite boring compared to the episodes that have gone before, Cotterdam, Havensworth etc. As soon as Neil appeared on the Grid, you knew he was a "bad un" and you also could guess that the threat, wasn't what they thought it was. It wasn't really a surprise that they were following the wrong targets. As for the whole Ruth thing, it was done ok. No real surprise there wasn't more made about her leaving but has there been for any officer of the service that has "died?" As for Harry, the bit where he pratically falls against the wall for support when entering Juliet's office, tells you all you need to know about how much of a face he is putting on the whole Ruth issue. I hate the nanny and why Adam just didn't sack her when she stuck her nose in the first time. I don't really think the actress is much good to be honest. As for Sally Bernard !! Why you would take the word of some visiting officer over your own boss, I have no idea. How on earth did she get to become an officer in the service!! Sorry, I really don't like this episode. Can you tell?? |

RE: Episode 5.6 discussion [re-watch]
I just re-watched this for the first time since I originally watched it a couple of years ago and was struck by a couple of things.
~I actually liked Ros in this episode, which I hadn't really remembered. She was downright friendly with Malcolm (this explains why I've seen Ros/Malcolm pairings in fanfic, because I couldn't imagine it otherwise.) I did laugh when he was supposedly injecting that thing behind her ear, because it's so obviously a dummy that it's ridiculous. ~This storyline - or at least Neil's manipulation of Sally - would not have worked if Ruth were still on the Grid. ~I really paid attention to Harry in this episode and I agree that other than the look at her chair, you'd have never known that he just lost someone very close to him. Of course if you take the information from Harry's Diary into the story, then I can look at this ep as though it takes place several weeks or even more than a month after Ruth left and it seems to fit better. Zaf: "Shouldn't you be in prison or something?" Ros: "This is the something." |

RE: Episode 5.6 discussion [re-watch]
This episode marks a very clear turning point for Ros' character. The writers were obviously trying to get us on Ros' side, and given her actions in 5.5 it was step they had to take.
How successful it was is up for debate. Personally I did like her a lot better after the second half of season 5 but then they blow it all to hell in season 6. I don't buy the lapse of time as indicated by Harry's Diary, there are several reasons as to why this doesn't wash. Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature |
