Hello all!

Chris here, translocated Brit at present working and living in the Los Angeles area.

I've been in film and television production for quite awhile now (well over 30 years) and still think it beats working for a living. I've had the good fortune to be able to survive and make a living in this business for awhile, have garnered a few industry Awards, and have my own little indie production company.

Spooks is hands down my fave series of any, in any country, at any time. Since I concentrate mainly on sci fi, I'd have to put Battlestar Galactica a close second, but that's about it, really. Don't have cable or other tele, just DVDs.

However, following on from your threads here, I've had a gander at Code 9, which (probably because I'm living here) I didn't find so completely bad, just a little misguided. It felt like watching a Jumbo jet pilot for six or seven seasons, then watching a tricycle pilot.
No matter how good the tricycle pilot drives his trike, well, it's just a trike.

The lady boss figure fit where in the scheme of things? The sense of organistion that's in Spooks proper was totally missing, and I do know that it was post nuclear but still, other departments seem to have been working just fine.

There were some notable script clangers as well, the biggest one in my book being the assailant in the anti-radiation suit near the end of the Code 9 series with the assault rifle. Firstly, the trigger guard of the pistol our good guy used to dispatch the attacker is way too small to be operated by bio gloves, but setting that aside for a moment, the assumption that the attacker was also sent by the Department was just plain silly. Nobody else on the planet could get a hold of bio suits?

I thought the performances were good to middling, nothing really grabbed a hold of me, but then again, was anything in that department meant to?

As I said before, all said and done, it was a tricycle. With training wheels.

Anyway, enough dribble from me.

Welcome! Spooks and Battlestar Galactica are my all-time favourite shows too! It will be interesting to hear someone's opinions that are actually working in the industry, so looking forward to your posts.

Code 9 wasn't that bad, it just wasn't good enough to be part of the Spooks franchise. If a second series were created I can't say whether I'd give it a try or not.

I think I really enjoyed the plot. Also, I liked a couple of the kids on the team. Otherwise the acting was mediocre at best. The writing needed some help.

Of course, we can continue that conversation over on the Code 9 section of the forum.
