Actually, I feel like I should have paid more actual attention in my actual Opera History classes in actual college. Wink Confused Just goes to show you that you never learn anything you can't use later....

Now I am trying to figure out what aria is in the background that Jools is crying over when he berates the woman next to him, "Are you a Nazi, madame? We Wagner fans are a rum lot so kindly do not tell me what I can and cannot do." lol! It might be Winterstürme which is one of the more famous arias from The Ring Cycle if only because it is quite possibly the only one that is an actual aria. In the traditional sense. Although what that might mean, if anything and probably nothing, I do not know. Could be as simple as TPTB wanted to make sure it was something easily identifiable as Wagner and the Ride of the Valkyries was just too loud.

Generally, I'm with you. I think Jools doesn't give a rats arse about Wagner's political history and subsequent legacy because of it. All he cares about is how Wagner bucked the rules and did his own thing AND literally changed the course of music history in doing so. Which might be fine in some cases, but not as a means to its own end. When Harry bucks the rules, there is very strong reasoning behind it.

I have often wondered what the answer to that question would have been? I think of Harry as more of an Italian opera man - Verdi or Puccini perhaps? Not Rossini which is too light.
Series 7 Spoiler: show
What is he listening to when SO19 come to get him in S7? Is it The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves? Or did I just pick that up in a fanfic somewhere?

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
