It's really kind of weird -- depending on where they staked their claim to which piece of land, members of the same family became American or Canadian by virtue of a border that was added at a later date.

Not unlike parts of the Middle East.

Absolutely the same. Or Poland and Russia -- those folks on the border spent most of the 20th century not knowing what country they would be citizens of in a month's time

RE: Travel
Tut tut, you're not meant to make fun of anyone Rolleyes Wink

My parents are currently deciding where we go on holiday at the moment, I really really really hope it's not another adventure place. Most likely place we're going to go is France, just because we go there nearly every year and have done so for years. I once went on a school trip to Ypres... I think it was a one-day trip, got up at 4 or something. I did German GCSE so I went to Aachen Christmas Market which was amazing, although slightly marred by my inability to speak German when in Germany/in a German lesson (I spoke French instead by accident Blush That's what always happened! In year 10 whenever I needed to speak one language it would immediately escape my mind and all I could remember was how to say it in the other language...) and I went on an exchange in Germany, but I can't remember where. I didn't really enjoy it much anyway...

My family don't really travel anywhere other than France, outside of the UK. We went to America once because my cousins used to live out there, and we used to go to Portugal but it wasn't all that good as my parents wanted to go out in the evenings, so they left us with a Portuguese babysitter who couldn't speak any English, and we'd have to go an 'adventure camp' during the day. Every two years or so we go up to my Grandparents who live in Yorkshire, but we're not going there this year, I don't think. We went last year, just after I got my AS results (I took two AS Maths modules early,) and found out that in one of them I hadn't done well enough to get into my new school and do Further Maths. That was an enjoyable holiday...
