I think I remember the article saying, that these people have long memories. While it is true that very few can hold a grudge like a producer, PF only jumped ship with The National to take Equus to the West End. At a transitional time as well - in 1973, Lord Olivier retired and Sir Peter Hall took over. Anyone would have made the same decision. It couldn't have been that much of a grudge because Sir Peter Hall directed Amadeus on B'way - PF as Mozart is something I would now give my eyeteeth to have seen. (But, noooooo! I HAD to see Cats! ) I think he's being self deprecating again. As he presents it, his career developed in spite of himself. Stage work opportunities just rarely factored into it. In the end, it all comes down to dollars & cents, pounds & pence. With the refreshed popularity that Spooks has given him, I think the opportunities *could* be there but he is choosing to stay in TV and film or just not pursuing stage work. I believe him when he says that he doesn't do stage work because TV/film it is just less taxing (time and physically) and the money is better. If you can get it, and he's got it, it is much more stable. Didn't Simon Canton Jones mention in a early S9 interview that he asked PF why he stayed in Spooks for so long and PF told him that he has kids to put through college!?! Sound to me like his priorities are straight. PF in Top Gear! JA to PF: "Darling, I can give you several!" LOLOLOL!!!! Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

As was PF's story that he left his car in a carpark and then left for the US for two years. I just love how PF and RPJ seemed so relaxed in that interview, they seem like they have a great relationship off screen, I just love their little facial expressions and they look like they were both having so much fun! It was lovely hearing him being PF rather than Harry, he seems so modest. Shame they didn't do the interview after Spooks had aired, he could have been more candid about it. I also loved that Top Gear episode. So obvious that the two of them were mates.
My favourite was Peter's story about trying to woo Jenny Agutter... |

RE: Peter Firth
His insistence that he's not very bright might be a defence mechanism - if people think he's a bear of very little brain, they won't ask too much of him...my husband does the same thing! Peter's obviously very bright when it comes to acting, but then that's true of quite a lot of actors: they're in their element when acting, but completely lost when not and they do come across as being rather other-worldly. Ever seen Nicholas Cage interviewed? He's a prime example of what I'm talking about.
Actually, Top Gear is a good example of it,too. Notice that Peter doesn't react quickly to some of Clarkson's quips related to the real MI-5...whereas Rupert does. It may be that Peter isn't particularly quick-witted but the interaction about the 'implied t' in Yorkshire showed he's clearly intelligent. "Where's Harry?" "Moving in mysterious ways." |

RE: Peter Firth
Didn't he look smashing in the cream linen suit and blue shirt? Perfect colours for PF! Clearly, although Lucas was under extreem pressure, he still took the time to ensure that Harry was the picture of sartorial elegance.
