Series 10 - Episode 1 Discussion

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
Great episode, fast paced and slickly produced - and a totally different feel to last series. You have to say poor Ruth though - as if she hasn't been through enough in previous series, she now has these pretty shocking revelations about Harry to contend with. As much as I've been rooting for Harry and Ruth in the past, part of me now wants to see Ruth be able to move on to pastures new (and I don't mean the HS) - go Ruth!

Can't go on, must go on

"Mama and Papa bear." Muwahhah Big Grin

Good ending to a slow start. A lot of exposition needed but I think they did a good job of it. Hopefully the story can move along now.

I liked Elena. I liked the way she moved. Old school but she's still game for a spies life.

Erin was a good replacement. Callum, not sure yet.

My only niggle is how come Harry and Ruth have become friends again? It would have been nice to see the chat. I thought I read in one of the TV magazines that there was going to be a flashback chat between them?

Going to take me a while to decipher my feelings on this.

Definitely a different feel to the last Series. Looks as if Ruth is in for a lot of emotional heartbreak.

Not sure I like the new "slick" Tariq!

Who was the woman on the phone after the would-be assassin was killed? It did look like Erin but i don't think it was.

Ruth was fantastic this episode, as in all of them of course. Her knocking the plate out of the waiter's hand! I actually really enjoyed the interplay between her and Elena. She must have had an idea that Harry and Elena had had an affair, she seemed to be pondering it at least. Harry and Ruth seemed to be a lot closer with each other in the beginning of the episode, almost as if they had talked things through themselves, him being totally honest with her is a good sign to.

Love Love Love Erin, I think she is fantastic and it is a shame we will only get 6 episodes of her. Great rapport with Dimitri and loved her putting Callum in his place! As for Callum I think I quite like him, but not sure yet, will have to see.

Series 10 Spoiler: show
OK That ending was totally expected by the end! Not liking the Harry/Elena connection but we got some Ruth and Harry moments.... I just hope Harry and Ruth end up together in the end. Maybe it will give Ruth the boost she needs to finally admit her feelings for Harry... *sigh*
All I can say is I KNEW IT about Sasha!!!! But I think the reason Harry was crying was because it was breaking his heart to tell Ruth not so much of his past feelings... now though we've seen quite a few of the trailer clips Wink
I like Erin and Calum actually very much Tongue

There was the usual Russian-esque scoring going on at various points during the episode Tongue I like the fact this series is going to be focussing on the links between the UK and Russia; the writes/producers are hot on the topical issues as always!

Loved this episode on the whole; although I did think it was fairly obvious that Sascha would turn out to be Harry's son. Our wish to see Harry in a tux came true(!!) and it was nice to see Harry and Ruth doing some field work. I loved the return of Harry's sarcastic wit ("At one dark moment I even considered gardening") and the development in his and Ruth's relationship. I have to say, I'm not too keen on the new characters (found them quite irritating), but I'm hoping they'll grow on me Smile I did like the fact that Erin (is she called Erin? Confused) turned out to have a daughter though; I definitely didn't see that one coming!

I think the guy who played Sasha was very good too. I wonder if
Series 10.6 speculation Spoiler: show
this will change everything, Harry fathering a child to a Russian asset would surely mean the sack! And also I think this finale could have a lot to do with Sasha, perhaps finding out who is real father is? I have the feeling that it could be Elena however who gets the brunt of his anger perhaps :/ of course this is all just based on what we have just seen so I could be completely off the mark

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
For the first time in my life, I'm able to watch this show real time. I'm currently visiting my family in Köln, Germany and we watched this episode tonight.

I'm not sure how I feel about this episode. There was no score, until the end, which made me feel odd during the entire thing. I can tell you that the minute I saw Sasha and the first flashback to Russia and Tourmaline I called that Sasha was Harry's son. The predictability of that "twist" was rather disappointing to me. I'm usually pretty good at anticipating, but the beauty of spooks was always that I couldn't anticipate the writers. Undecided

I also really dislike that new section chief woman. Really. Why do these writers write these ridiculous women? She's way too soft; she's a spy for god's sake, she should be able to kill in the line of duty without crying. It's just ridiculous. Christ, [/b]I miss Ros.

Love Erin, hate Calum, way too up himself for my liking, How (or should that be why?) are Harry and Ruth so okay together again? What have we missed?!

I seem to foresee Dimitri and Erin getting close, oh and two other things, Young Harry looks nothing like a young Peter, way off the mark there and there were a few continuity errors in the ballroom scenes, Sad

Harry & Ruth fan Heart Ros & Malcolm fan

Not so much a moan at the series, more a Harry what on earth are you doing moan, why do you want whatshername (I keep wanting to call her Elina but that's my friend's name so not entirely sure its right). At the end I was seriously close to getting annoyed with Harry - poor Ruth! I have a horrible feeling that she's going to be worst hit by all of these new revelations :/

I don't think Harry really wants Eleana, but facing facts, he does have a child with her and a very unresolved relationship. He seemed to be making it clear to Ruth in the tribunal that he wanted nothing more than a professional relationship with her, but I wonder if that's more of a "defence mechanism" than anything more? It's frustrating how as soon as Harry shows signs of moving on, Ruth shows signs of wanting a relationship!

I really do hope that they admit their feelings for each other by the end of the series. As long as they have a (somewhat) happy ending... that's all we can ask for.

Oh, and did anyone else notice the return of the shaky camera? Wink
