RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
Highly entertaining and the hour flew by with plenty of intrique and cold war reminiscences, an exploding laptop, another love interest for Harry that should kick Ruth into action and then the return of Harry's sarcastic wit. I felt Erin fitted in really well; I immediately like her and the cocky Calum is a refreshing change on the grid. Towers had me laughing when Harry made him jump on his front drive but especially when he moved in on Ruth at the reception. Sasha being Harry's son was obvious but who cares so long as it doesn't turn into a Catherine Cookson-type melodrama. Can't see the writers doing that somehow though.
All in all a perfect start!! |

Love that Harry and Ruth has moved on, i mean they feel much more comfortable around each other thats probably because Albany thing or maybe they have had a talk who knows... im though guessing that in ep2 and ep 3 we might be back to awkward Harry and Ruth... LOVED laughing Harry and smiling Ruth! But for gods sake give Ruth some better clothes!!!!!!!! I am so happy that Ruth looks so beautiful and sophisticated with her shorter hair. Ruth does not need to be kicked into action re Harry. She and Harry have moved on perhaps during Harry's gardening period. Remember the tete-a-tetes in S9. They smile at each other and I do not really think that Elena is a threat for Ruth. How could Harry resist Ruth's dimply smile? She is such a breath of fresh air compared to Elena. I agree with you. I hate Elena, I think that she looks awful. I think too that she is very devious and is still a Russian spy. I am worried about the meeting of the Russians who were holding a photo of Elena. She is back to lure Harry and I am concerned that she is going to hurt Ruth through Sascha. Have you noticed how she looked like a snake at Ruth during the embassy reception? and how Ruth was looking at her, guessing that there must be more to Harry and Elena than he was saying. Sascha seems to be a nasty piece of work. Does he know that Harry is his father? Harry seems not afraid of him, because he visited Sascha as a child. Was Ilya Gavrik already Elena's husband then? How could you do that to your legitimate family, Harry? You should be ashamed of yourself and Ruth could not be blamed if she moved on, but please not with the HS. She has already suffered so much because of Harry. Thank God she did not accept his marriage proposal. Harry still loves Ruth very much. He looked quite jealous when Ruth rushed to Dimitri's side during the embassy reception. When Harry told Ruth about his illegitimate family, he had tears in his eyes. I think that he was afraid of losing Ruth at that moment. He has so much trust in her by confiding his secret. She could get him in deep trouble if she told the HS. I think that the American knows about Harry's second family. I enjoyed episode 1 very much. I still think that Harry's secret is more than his love child. I am afraid that he either Series 10 Spoiler: show I am so excited about the next episodes. I can't wait to see more PF and NW interaction. |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
First off, I'm used to watching these on DVD (I'm in the states) so to be able to watch it just hours after it aired is fantastic, but a little frustrating because now I actually have to wait a week to see the next one!
I found the episode interesting. New characters to adjust to - I'm not thrilled with either, but Erin was a lot better than I was expecting. I thought the twist of her having a child was nice, since it's been a while since any of our spooks have been parents of young children. Callum was so so, and I'm not if he'll grow on me in the 5 episodes that remain. Dimitri looks really good with the longer hair and Tariq was looking not quite so young. I knew Beth wouldn't be around but I thought they'd say she moved over to 6 since her international connections were deemed more valuable there. I'd like to know what happened between Harry and Ruth since we saw them last, though that could have been an episode on it's own. Does Harry really think that Ruth won't be able to get her hands on that report of his if she wants to? Aside from the fact that the HS would likely give it to her if she asked, she seems to have been able to get her hands on plenty of reports she's not meant to see. I was glad to see that she was at his inquiry hearing. Loved Ruth's comment about having had worse nights when Harry asks her to be his plus one at the reception. The really delusional part of me wanted to see Ruth at home in Harry's house when he came home that night, rather than Sasha there with a gun. As for Harry, I thought it was pretty obvious from the get go that he and Elena had been involved, just in his reactions to her. I find his revelation to Ruth that Sasha is his son to be 'off.' Just because that is what Elena told him doesn't make it true. Maybe just more delusions on my part. It was difficult for Harry to fess up to Ruth about he and Elena's relationship and Sasha's paternity, but I'm glad he did. I did like Ruth telling Harry that they could unpick this together - reminiscent of her conversation in 9.8 with Lucas when she says that so much has happened between them (Harry and Ruth) and she couldn't begin to unpick it all. What I found interesting was Harry's conversation with the CIA guy. Jim's busy chatting about his young wife and all I could think during it was that she's about the same age as Ruth, especially when Harry corrected Jim about the wife's age being 41 and not 39, and how it seemed to have reminded Harry about himself and Ruth. Then again, maybe it's just those delusions again. I'm happy to have been able to see this (if I'd have had to wait for it to come out on DVD in the States, I may have gone insane) but now I'm sad that there are only 5 eps left. Zaf: "Shouldn't you be in prison or something?" Ros: "This is the something." |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
I enjoyed this episode...but have to say it wasn't Spooks as we know it...more like a spin off! There was no story of the week, no explosions, no twists (sorry everyone must of guessed about the son!)..I think I liked it because it was all about Harry.
One question, in the trailer we saw a man dragging a body down a corridor, when I first saw it I feared it was Harry with Ruth, but was it the assassin last night?? |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
I can't quite work out why there is so much anti Elena sentiment running through these posts. She's a double agent and as such has put her life on the line for Britain for 30 years. She's helped defend this Country. What is there to hate? She should be praised. Alice Krige looked elegant at the ball and Elena handled herself and seeing Harry again with aplomb.
I took the Russian scene at the beginning as a plot to find the mole. The operation at the ball didn't seem to be about a successful assassination and the assassin didn't exactly run for it. I think it was to test the security around Elena and whether British Secret Service were protecting her. Elena isn't after Harry romantically but there is unfinished business. Perhaps all Elena wanted from the arrangment with Harry in Berlin was a child. He gave her one (so to speak.) They clearly were in love but had to part. The love is still there when that happens. It never goes away if there is no reason for it to go away. As for Ruth, someone is trying to find her a new home as Harry will not be Section Head much longer. I wonder if someone is trying to push her in a safe direction where she can no longer be in harms way. |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
I’m not sure about this first episode. Can’t quite get my head around why Harry and Ruth act so ‘normal’ around each other. Surely we’ve missed a very important chat between the two of them.
I thought the Home Secretary was looking good, did SRB loose some weight? There’s still some getting used to Erin and Callum and I thought the ‘He’s my son’ business was no surprise at all sadly. They’ve introduced so many characters, I’ll have to watch tonight again to get 'to know them'. |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
Glad I wasn't the only one who found the Sascha reveal to be obvious but I enjoyed the episode very much. Lots of nice character moments, especially for Harry.
picard, I don't like him either. I am not looking forward to Series 10 Spoiler: show Solid start for the season. I agree with previous comments that it will be nice to see someone with a kid on the show, we haven't had that since Adam's days on the Grid. In some ways this felt like season 1, a bit. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why, but there was almost a coldness to the way it was shot that felt like the really old days. It suits the Russian theme, that's for sure. Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature |
