For those following "That's Life" The second series starts this Sunday, staight after the first finishes. Apparantly episode 2.1 is Peter's last. (Thanks for the PF forum for that confirmation.)

I think being an avid fan and being attentive for news of the particular actor (or whatever public person…) makes you realise that most of the things people say are the same things or similar versions of it all over again. But I think that’s just normal and normally nobody takes notice of this because not everybody is “following up” every tiny snippet of those people and hears a story for the first time and that be it.

I’ve noticed this lately for many of the actors I like – that in interviews or in news stories it is always the same they talk about, maybe even the same phrasing and you get a little annoyed at this but actually I think it is perfectly comprehensible to do so.

First of course because they can’t give too much away but also they tend to stick to some stories that really work, maybe for some comical effect. Peter Firth also does this with the little tale about having his mother in the audience for the first or one of the first Equus performances and her saying she didn’t mind him seeing naked on stage because she’d been the first ever (or so she thought) to see him so.

Over on the peter firth forum somone posted a Yorkshire Post interview he did, which had some more personal stuff in it. Very interesting interview and I'd recommend popping over there and finding it.

On a seperate note, I discovered "The Perfect Husband" this evening on YouTube and found it a very enjoyable story. Peter's acting, is of course very good, but I also enjoyed because the other main roles in this film were also very good. Would highly recommend it.

Yes, I've read this Yorkshire Post interview, it really was interesting and makes you want to go to the places he mentioned. Maybe he should work as an agent for the Yorkshire Tourist Office

HAHA! He does like that story about his mum.

NW said recently that Peter is prone to tell everything to everyone (her words were: 'Peter would be a dreadful spy') so it's possible he's never really learned the art of striking a balance. To be fair, he's not an actor who's done a ridiculous amount of press since his role as Alan Strang so we should remember that too.

I've never had a problem with actors repeating the same thing in various interviews, because let's face it, these poor people get the same questions over and over. I'd probably also give up providing different answers to the same questions if it were me...

I actually like the fact that PF seems to have eschewed commercial fame a little. I think he's struck a nice balance that makes him really happy; what more could one wish for out of life?

You're right, Silktie, it speaks volumes for a person that they can get their priorities properly balanced. I have a friend who is an actor and plays one very well known character as well as other smaller roles. He has lived in the same small house for all his married life and brought up his family there. Anyone less "starry" you could not imagine. He is lovely. I am just being greedy wanting to see more of Peter. So I must say I'm very grateful for all the information here which must have lead me to pretty much everything he's ever done!! (even if I haven't been able to get my hands on all of it).

That quote is all the more funny and amusing because I remember seeing one of the GMTV on the set interview for Spooks when they were just starting up Series 8, and it was so hilarious that when the interviewer is talking to Hermione and Peter, and asks Peter about Harry holding a torch for Ruth, he just sat there very calmly and kept on repeating "It's true....it's true...." and then he and Hermione proceeds to go into giggles.

And the interviewer joked that we'd probably get more response out of Peter if they were gag him and lock him in the trunk of a car!
