I'll surely give Elena a chance to develop as a character but on the first glance I did not find her very likeable. I don't really know how to describe this but there is some kind of coldness in her appearance. However the picture of "Young Elena" is very different I think. There she seems to be very sweet and soft and at the moment I just can't meld young and old Elena into one person. Just from the looks obviously as the young one hasn't said anything and the old one only a few bits... |

(19-09-2011 06:45 AM)Tea Lady Wrote: I can't quite work out why there is so much anti Elena sentiment running through these posts. She's a double agent and as such has put her life on the line for Britain for 30 years. She's helped defend this Country. What is there to hate? She should be praised. Alice Krige looked elegant at the ball and Elena handled herself and seeing Harry again with aplomb. We have agree to disagree. I found the character of Elena one of the most frightening characters of Spooks. I hated the way she was looking at Ruth during the embassy reception. To me she looked like a snake ready to gobble up her victim. Ruth was watching her too and realized that there was more to Harry and Elena than meets the eye. I do not criticize the actress and think that she did a good job. In fact, I feel sorry for her. First the Borg queen, now Elena. It is not her fault if Spooks made her look so unappealing. Yes, Elena is elegant but her eyes are scary and predatory. I do not trust her a bit. I am also worried that the Russians in their meeting perhaps somewhere in Russia had her picture. To me it indicates that Elena is still an active Russian agent. Sascha seems to be a very angry young man. He appears to know that Harry is his father and perhaps even remembers him. The mother and son are going to wreck Harry's life and that of Ruth. I wish that Kudos had not introduced that story of an illegitimate child. It would have been as effective to imply that Harry had somehow compromised a intelligence op without the introduction of a second family. We really do not know whether Harry is the father of Sascha. As a former trained ex-KGB agent, Elena was ready to do anything to spy on the Allies and must have had many lovers. She was no naive young girl in love with a dashing Westerner. I am quite sure that she is devious especially compared to Ruth. I do not trust her a bit. Harry is a fool, as he was then, if he hooks up with her again. Perhaps the HS is trying to protect Ruth by proposing a promotion to her. It might be time for Ruth to move on. She certainly deserves it. She should never have left the GCHQ. By now she would have married a nice mathematician of her own age and lead a very boring but safe life. I still think that Harry will always love Ruth and how could he not? Ruth and Elena are day and night. Ruth is the love of his life, not Elena. Elena might have been lust and perhaps the mother of one of his children, but she will never share the emotional and intellectual connection Harry has with Ruth. I do not understand the reason why Kudos seems to be demolishing Harry's character. It might be a smoke screen Series 10 Spoiler: show (19-09-2011 11:25 AM)nothingisasitseems Wrote:(19-09-2011 10:49 AM)richliga Wrote:(19-09-2011 10:39 AM)Nitrus Wrote: I agree with Tea Lady about Elena, just because she isn't Ruth and might or might not be a love interest to Harry doesn't mean she is a bad character or actress. A double bluff: quite possible, though it might be a stretch that Harry is still involved with spying on Russia (Is it not the job of MI-6?). Or he is completely innocent. I like the plot of the impersonator, who might be Harry after all or not. Very exciting. |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
Dont really know how to take the starting episode in this final series. Was shot in a very different way to the last series. however kind of get the sense it was more of a build up episode has maybe the next allowing the 3rd ad 6th to be the explosive episodes in the series.
It felt as though the slip on sasha being harrys son was a little to easy i find it hard ot belive this was a mistake buy the writers has they are usally so good at misguiding the truth i feel as though it was let on far to quickly maybe because he himself will end up filling his mothers shoes and pressuming a role of double agent. erin seems a little bitchy to start but has episode progressed looked respectful and the touch with the family opened up a hole new side to her still prefer they female role portraied buy roz but erin hell of a lot better then beth bailey. callum a little cockey for me have a bad feeling either erin or callum will have a tie to the US in some secretive way which will be used in later episode i could be wrong but both of them have somthing that dosent feel right the fact that erins family was shown sort of lowered the odds on feeling that way about her but fact her having a child dosent prove her loyalty or not something about her she is either loyal to the core or trechourus and callum i just smell mole |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
beatrice4ruth, are you honestly telling me that you're post was not chastising Elena just because she had a thing with Harry? HR is not the be all and end all of Spooks, if the show was always about HR and never deviated, it would be a pretty poor television show.
What the writers are doing is called a storyline. It might not be what you want because someone is in danger of damaging your precious HR, but it's entertaining, intriguing and a good storyline. Sig & Av Guidelines | Rules | Spoiler Policy |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
Please don't patronize me. It is not my precious H/R storyline. I am afraid that you have not read my previous posts. I want H/R to be a B-line story not the main story.
I am looking forward to the impersonator plot and the events during the Cold War. I was working at a European embassy in West Germany in the early 80s and stayed in East Germany. I even managed to take the wrong metro train from West Berlin and ended up in East Germany alone on a platform surrounded by Stasi agents! Surprisingly, there were very nice and sent me back alone on my metro train to West Berlin. The ride through the dark tunnels of the metro train was very "spooky". It can't tell you more about my experiences. It's classified! Just joking. The West-East German border was very scary with its armed guards on their watchtowers. It was really a dark period for West Germany and East Germany and Berlin a very dangerous place for spies, whether British, German or Russian. As you can imagine, I am very intrigued by the Cold War plot. Series 10 Spoiler: show |

I did have this as a fleeting thought when Ruth quizzed Harry about his codes and how could someone else get their hands on them. But Harry has not been in the office for two months and I don't see him using Ruth like this if he is lying. As for Sasha, I'm still not 100% convinced he is Harry's. The boys got black hair and Harry is blonde and Elena, redish. The genes must have skipped a generation. What if Elena used Sasha against Harry in Berlin? Told Harry he was his? This does seem a tad far fetched but is possible. I think Harry would have worked that out by now that Elena is not who he thought she was. May I also make a separate plea to anyone posting on this thread that if you are aware of spoilers then please do not post as speculation. This is not directly aimed at anyone. I just dont want to be spoiled anymore. Thanks. |

Not only is Elena a British heroine, ON OUR SIDE as someone pointed out earlier (well, for now, this is Spooks after all), she's a great actress! It seems that certain posters couldn't bear to have even a cigarette paper come between H & R! But as you say, that's a little something called a STORYLINE. And I for one say it's an extremely welcome and intriguing one, on the first episode's evidence. I do wonder sometimes, when some posters seem to call for a show entirely free of plot, spying, enemies, or danger, in favour of six hours of Harry and Ruth gazing into one another's eyes. Do they actually like Spooks, or do they just like the non-existent, imagined romance show they have in their minds? Well, I for one like SPOOKS, the show that this board exists to celebrate. I'm sure I'll be roundly abused for this by certain parties, and so I don't plan to post again on this topic. Fantastic first ep, great storyline set up. Bravo! I love Harry and Ruth, the beating hearts of a great show, but I know that what will be will be, and I will never call for the show to become something it's not just to satisfy my cravings. Long live Spooks! |

Why on earth do you think that we all want exclusively H/R storylines! I think that you do not read our posts. And mark my words, Elena is not Britain's Heroine. Once a spy, always a spy! At least the forum is not boring with these contradictory opinions. Next argument next Sunday : Episode 2! |

RE: Series 10 Episode 1 discussion
as much as i like the idea of harry ruth its very much in the vein of Mulder and Scully or CJ and Danny for me, if it happens good if not it dosnt! i think that disliking a charactor because she had a Fling with harry before he met ruth is also not very fair we habent really deen enough of her to make a judgement.
Calum on the other hand was an utter tool! trying to mustle in of Tariqs role within the team! i didnt miss Beth at all, nor lucas but i still think spooks misses that strong section lead like Tom, Adam and Ros. i like the idea that the new charactor has a family outside of the grid, its always gopod to show other dynamics for them all. also i swear i saw harry with tom quinn in the photos that sasha (SP) was looking at near the begining, one of harry and lucas and one of harry and tom! i liked last nights ep, saw the huge reviel comming! but the more i think about it, the more i think harry and ruth wont get there happy ending ;( SPOOKS 2002-2011 - Thanks for the Memory's
