RE: Episode 7 Discussion
And what about Harry telling Lucas off? We didn't see anything about it... Perhaps it was a deleted scene...

As somebody said before, Tariq saw the dark side of MI5, we'll see how this affects him, I think he and Ruth have lots of things in common, I love when both of them share a look.

And I also love the next bit when Harry approaches Ruth's desk and talk an he says "you remind me" Heart Very simbolic their interaction, yes

RE: Episode 7 Discussion
I think Tariq knew that it was for the greater good.. Lucas was bang on the money "They were going to kill hundreds of innocent people"

Hell, I'd do it if it meant saving innocent people, I might not like it, but it would certainly help me get over it.

RE: Episode 7 Discussion
Immediately after the climax to that scene, when you could see where it was going, I mumbled exactly that through the hand clamped over my mouth. And of course Lucas said so just moments later.

And ugly as the decision was to send Ashok in, it was the right one. It's tragic that so many of the "right" decisions in this show include bodybags.

RE: Episode 7 Discussion
Of course, he knew but I mean that it wouldn't be easy for him, one thing is to know MI5 puts people in danger for the greater good, and another watch and feel it by yourself.

I'm glad Ashok did survive Big Grin

Yep, agreed. I didn't think that there was anything too "overt" about their scenes at all. Just enough to keep the H/R thread alive.

Great lines:
Tariq: "Trespass trap. Crap!"

Ashok: "Are you for real? I got other plans, like staying alive."
"I live with my parents. Shit, I'm 17, I haven't done anything yet."
"If you're the masked white hero, what does that make me, Tonto?"
"I read all about what you lot get up to on the internet."

Ros: "A Protestant in a Karachi jail, a fate worse than death!"
"Well I lied, goes with the territory. Next time you get wind of something like this, make sure you have Harry Pearce on speed dial."

Harry: "Never trust an overnight success."

Lucas: "Tariq, I need you to hijack a mobile phone."
Tariq: "Stick with me. You'll never have to pay for your own calls again."

harry
"What is the truth?"
"Betrayal is a cancer. Let it eat your soul, not mine."
"Please tell me this isn't going where I think it's going."

Don't like the Home Secretary, or his acting ability though, And I agree JHyde - Ros should have said something like "You've dropped your X Men prop" rather than the potato peeler thing. What I was thinking when Lucas chased Ashok into Sea World was "don't they have to pay?" LOL. Another poss drinking game - whenever Ruth approaches Harry with a piece of paper in her hand and says "There's something else"? Can't do my original one which was whenever Lucas tilts his head before saying something - you'd be a goner within minutes he does it all the time but it's sexy and I like it! Rolleyes

(Italics mine) LOL re: the head tilt! I noticed that too! Now I'm going to laugh -- or get drunk -- at that every episode! Big Grin Tongue

RE: Episode 7 Discussion
Another great episode! You've all covered most of what I wanted to say already on the good perfomrance by the guy playing Ashok, and how well the India/Pakistan issue and Britain's historic role in it was portrayed.

I have one gripe though; to me the fact that Ashok is only 17 makes that speech he gave the guy at the end really unbelievable. Such tremendous political and human insight is highly unlikely to come from someone so young. And also, I thought they wimped out of killing the bad guy at the end. It was more the type of ending you get on American shows - where everyone miraculously survives. It would've been more in Spooks tradition if he did set himself alight after Ashok got the girl away from him.

Lovely Harry/Ruth moments, though. Almh, I didn't feel that Harry was suddenly too open towards Ruth. I suspect they actually went for that drink after the last episode, we just didn't get to see it. There was a mutual concern for each other in this episode which was lovely to see and perhaps indicates that they've progressed further with each other behind the scenes. I'm not saying they're dating or anything, but it seems as though they have at least talked about some things. It was just nice to see someone comforting poor Harry, after so many seasons of making the hard decisions. I think that touch of the hand from Ruth was the first comforting human contact we've seen him receive since...well, since Ruth left in season 5 actually!

Felt sorry for Smart Boy, he's finally seen the ugly side of the job first-hand. Welcome to Spooks, mate!

And it's lovely to have Ruth back as the conscience of the Grid, they do need her human touch to remind them all of the human cost of their actions.

RE: Episode 7 Discussion
What I meant was that his comment was too overt, about him needing her, not the whole hand touching thing! I loved that bit! Wink

DANNY - Placements all over the shop. Back up vehicles, chopper support if we need it. Bomb disposal with a signal jammer for Mary’s trademark remote control blasts. And Tom here’s doing the catering. Mate. You are so covered.

RE: Episode 7 Discussion
That comment wasn't too overt in my opinion, either. He was saying he needed her to remind him of the human cost of their actions, in effect saying she prevents him from losing his humanity. It wasn't as though he was saying he needed her in a romantic sense, or to keep him warm at night...Tongue
