RE: Series 9 Episode 6 discussion
A brilliant episode, extremely nerve wracking because of the plausibility of the weekly story as well as the Lucas thing, but I suspect that will be ramped up even more next week. Confused

At least it confirmed my feeling that there was nothing that could have happened in Lucas' past that would have seen him emotionally choose this path just to protect himself, nor logically choose this path as something that he was ever likely to get away with and would be better than facing the music. Vaughn brought Maya into the picture precisely because he knew all that, and knew that at some point he would need to use her life and safety to get Lucas to do what he wanted.

I definitely think we were meant to think Lucas took his hand from Danielle's neck deliberately because she mentioned the word Albany, but I cling to the hope that having at that point realised that everything had probably been compromised and Harry dead for all he knew, that he knew his duty was to let Danielle die as the only way to stop whoever was now in control from getting everything they wanted. At the point where he was reluctant to shoot her, he did not know the desperate situation.

I have no idea whether Malcolm called him John for any story reason or just to give us the hint he knows about John.

I don't bother about plot holes usually but I can't believe that even in his desperate situation, that Lucas' brains would be addled enough to believe Malcolm would not check on what Lucas said in some way, although John's probably would. Malcolm may not do whatever official check in about Albany that Lucas was talking about, but of course he would ring and try to just say Hi to Harry or someone else to get a feel if something was going on or not.

The two personality thing keeps popping up for me. This week, even with the urgent things he was having to do as John, he was busting a gut to do his Lucas operational thing well and he is still functioning very effectively as Lucas. If he did let Danielle die because of Albany, it will be the first time that John has compromised a Lucas operation. Previous skivings off to take phone calls have not compromised Lucas' operational work and pinching Albany etc are purely John exercises.

That is one of my big problems with this whole thing, that Lucas has had to leave his brains, common sense and everything else at the front door from the word go - for himself or for the love of Maya -I don't think so; because Maya is in in physical danger - maybe, but I still think he would have gone with facing the music and trusted in MI5 to protect her.

If the Albany story line does turn out to be all about Lucas and not some covert operational thing, then whether this loss of mind is going to be credible for me, is going to depend on what he has to hide, and I cannot at the moment conceive of anything in the past that would explain such a massive brain fade.

That must mean that Harry was also present for whatever went down with Vaughn, John and Maya.

They said Cologne in 1979. Harry was working on Operation Omega which is talked about in Harry's Diary and was briefly touched upon in Series 4 when Juliet was introduced.

So my brain exploded, my heart is about to die, and my mind decided to go on holiday. I swear Spooks is dangerous for my health! One of these days I am going to die because of this Lucas storyline!!

More questions are raised about what the hell is going on, and from the looks of it, especially with next week's preview, Harry seems to even want to help Lucas. Things have certainly gotten a lot more interesting!

Series 9.7 trailer Spoiler: show
For anyone who watched the preview for Episode 7, did anyone think that line at the end with Harry saying "betrayal is a cancer, let it eat your soul, not mine" and Lucas looking up, that Lucas has this look on his face like he knew he had been a bad boy and is now being scolded by Daddy. Silba

Any chance Lucas is being set up by friends and foes alike?

If it's friends and foes alike, then I just feel bad for Lucas, the poor thing already is so torn, as if his fragile psyche needs anymore damage.Dodgy

I haven't seen the episode yet, but something occurred to me. You guys are saying Lucas is one of three people who can be given the Albany file, but Malcolm gave "John" a fake one. Could they have meant The real Lucas North could be given the Albany file?

I'm still curious as to how all this will tie in with the Chinese spies having Lucas's picture. This is requiring too much thinking, my brain hurts now.... Dodgy

Great episode this week - loved Malcolm's reappearance. I'm starting to get frustrated with Harry and Ruth, though. Wish someone would come along and knock their heads together. Especially before the last episode...

The look on Harry's face at the end doesn't fill me with confidence about Ruth's future Confused

I think my stomach knotted itself about a billion times when the trailer was on... I'm with you, Tranquility. Definitely not looking good... Confused

My brain has turned to mush. My life was much calmer six months ago before I found this show.

Holy Heck! Going to start reading the thread now. Nothing to say at this point except that it's a great story.

Rooftop scene:
Beth and Dmitri sneak up and disarm Lucas, cuff him and lead him away.
Lucas screams, "No Harry please, I'd rather die!"

Harry: "We're sending you to rehab ................. in Texas."
