well Ruth was probably running on 150% Adrenalin and probably realized that it was Him or them - surly we arn't saying that Ruth some how cant pull the trigger?

I think we need to remember that Ruth is still MI5...she would have had training in order to deal with these situations even if she is an analyst. I hate her loss of heart though.....I adore Ruth

Ruth scored very badly on her firearms test in the Personnel Files, but I agree that it doesn't take much to pull the trigger when your life hangs in the balance and your physically outnumbered. The issue for me is why she shot him so many times with such anger. Anger that is/was not really Ruth. Was the Frenchman, her Mani from 8.1 ? She got her chance to take her anger out at last?

I forgot to say that I also loved the Harry/Vaughn twist at the start. That really confused me.

Also, did anyone else shout out when Lucas was looking up Malcolm's mother on the computer? I thought he was going to go after her for a moment !!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhh !!!

At that range, she couldn't miss, it would be like shooting the side of a barn from 5 metres.

I'm still not giving up on a comeback or an explanation in Lucas's case. I've survived through one messed-up-mind-twisting-betrayal-riddled storyline with Tony Almeida on 24, I can sure as hell hold out for the end to see Lucas's fate.

There is still a chance of a comeback, there is always a chance, as long as Lucas is still breathing, there is a chance. If they are truly going to do a complete 180 on the character, then fine, give me some damn good explanations and contradict every ounce of loyalty I have seen from Lucas for the past 2 series. Or better yet, just say he suffers from split personality or something! Dodgy

But of course, since I am now currently keeping Lucas in my cookie jar, he's not going to be any trouble......right Lucas? *pats cookie jar affectionately* Silba

I may be making this up, but didn't Lucas North's parents die in a car crash? That was convenient. Did John kill Lucas' family as well? If I have this wrong I apologise.

RE: Series 9 Episode 7 discussion
Hello! I am de-lurking to post this, and I'm almost certainly wrong (or clutching desperately at straws!): is it possible that Lucas in in fact the Albany file? I admit I have no well-thought-out theory to back this up. But it could be made to fit with the Chinese cell in 9.4 having the still-unexplained picture of him.

I think it's interesting that so much of John's backstory was told / suggested to him by Vaughan, even down to the chilling (and brilliant) part about being a killer waking up. There is possibly something here to underline the fact that Lucas really has not been in control of his own life for a very long time.

Feel free to destroy this mini-theory at will!

RE: Series 9 Episode 7 discussion
What an amazing episode. My heart was thumping all the way through it.

Lucas has gone past the point of no return now, there is no way he can redeem himself now. He had me convinced after that awesome one to one scene with Harry, but having learned he pressed the trigger for the bomb and then killed the real Lucas himself, for me he is evil. It's a pity Vaughn died, he seemed to have more scruples than John/Lucas.

I'd been a bit worried about the flash back stuff, so I'm glad it was done so well (I should know by now that the writer's rarely disappoint). RA looks so much younger without his designer stubble (dodgy haircut though).

Ruth was scary. I fear for her mental health. If there is anyone on the grid who is losing it, it is her. I hope if the writers are not going to kill her off in the next episode, they soften her (perhaps they will allow her to have an emotional breakdown before the end of the series) or they are going to turn the audience against her. Harry is the character people love the most, so the fans will always be on his side. She's being pretty nasty towards him at the moment.

Lucas has to be going out of the show, so hopefully the script writers will only lose one cast member. Two in one episode would be shocking, even for Spooks, surely?

Top performance tonight was PF. Every scene he was in was superb. Spooks could never survive without him.

I'm not ashamed to admit it - I cried with horror and disillusionment for the man I loved. When Lucas told his story I could still forgive him as being young and stupid and then redeeming himself through years of selfless service to his country. The comment about surviving the eight years of torture because he deserved it, floored me.

And then...

it turned out that he wasn't duped, that he really was aware of his actions. That made the delivery of the explanatory scene with Harry even more clever as he was making it up as he went. I'm already in mourning for the lovely man I thought I knew. It's all too awful for words.

I have no clue, in fact, I don't even remember what happened to Lucas's parents except that his Dad was a minister.

I'm becoming more convinced that John is a split personality!! Because there are so many private moments when Lucas is alone or with other people and he shows so much care, love, and affection. I have trouble believing that all of that care was just a front and a lie.

There is something seriously wrong with Lucas's brain right now.

OMG, I seem to know that too somehow. That would really be awful.
I am so sad now. Lucas North the legend, John the ''real person'' and very bad to booth. It feels like a character assassination to me. This ep was less of a roller coaster for me then 9.6. Lucas/John could still have been good last week, and the outcome could still (for me) have been honorable. There were two sides to the coin then, good and evil. There only was one side now: Lucas/John became John, and he was even more evil than anticipated. That was the main story line for me tonight.
And we still don't know what Albany is!

I completely second that!!!! It is too horrible.
