Series 10 Rumours & Speculation

If S10 is the last series... I just can't see how they'll be able to resolve every issue and close every plot-hole. So I fear we may be left with a rather open ending. I think Alec will definitely return, and I love the idea of him leading the investigation against Harry - that would really prove to him that he can't trust anyone!

I agree that there was far too much of Lucas in S9, but I'm still a little hopeful that he isn't dead. I'd love to see figures from Harry's past return to haunt him at some point, and unfortunately... Lucas is one of the people Harry has to feel guilty about. If old characters are brought back in flashbacks etc, I just hope it's well-done.

Malcolm would be a nice face to see return to The Grid, although I'm not sure he would really be needed with Tariq now manning the computers. There could be some potential for humorous scenes between the two of them though if Malcolm did return... arguing over whose knowledge of technology is superior? I think if there is an investigation into Harry in S10 then Malcolm will have to be called back anyway; he was present and witnessed several events involving Harry, and has probably implicated himself in a number of misdemeanour's, knowingly or otherwise. But Malcolm could always have 'gone on the run' There are just too many possibilities!

Seems to me that Alec heading the inquiry into Harry is a bit of a conflict of interest as Harry is the one who brought him back into the service? Alec was apparently decommissioned under a dark cloud, so I find it hard to believe that the PTB of the service would accept him back into the fold so quickly and in such a role. Harry brought him back in *because* of that, not in spite of it. If the HR and/or the IA department were doing their job, they would bring in someone completely external. I would be more inclined to see Alec as a go-between between Harry and The Grid during the process. After all, as Harry pointed out, Alec has nothing to lose.

In the missing 48 hrs – Harry goes back to the Grid, blanks everyone and phones HS from his office. Calls Alec into his office and tells him to organise reports from the team to be sent to the HS. As Harry and Alec continue talking focus switches to the team looking in. They look worried, Ruth distraught. Switch back as Harry is telling Alec that he will resign. Alec says that he did the right thing with Albany / Lucas / Ruth and should fight any disciplinary action. Harry says that he needs to protect his team, past and present and can’t have them involved in a lengthy enquiry, especially with the Royal Wedding coming up. Harry will also add that he is tired of the loss, death, politics etc and doesn’t want to carry on. Alec asks him what he will do and Harry says that in the short term he will spend some time with his children and then consider his options. Tells Alec to get himself sorted out. As Alec gets up to leave he turns and says “It isn’t you that Ruth has to forgive, it’s herself. Give her more time, Harry.”

Alec gives message to the team re the reports and adds that Harry has been instructed by the HS not to talk to any of the team until the reports have been done. Ruth and Harry look at each other through the glass of his office. Harry cold but sad, Ruth upset. Beth gets everyone organised and says that they must agree on what to say in order to help Harry. Alec tells them that Harry insists that they tell the truth and not compromise themselves - cover ups are okay to save lives but not to save someone’s career.

Ruth goes to Harry’s house but he isn’t there and he doesn’t pick up the phone when she calls.
Harry goes back to the grid the following night to collect some of his things. Goes to the roof and takes the HS call. Puts his resignation letter in the post.

Two months on.
New boss at Section D. Not liked by the team. Obviously !!
Harry contacts Alec asking for a meeting. Tells Alec that he has been asked by the highest authority to set up a “private investigating co” Alec asks him what sort of thing they will be doing and Harry says that they will employ a couple of people to do the usual sort of thing so no suspicion will be caused. However they have been asked to spy on the spies as there is a concern that someone at a very high level is planning something at the Royal Wedding. Tells Alec that Malcolm is on board and that Ros and Adam weren’t really blown up and will be coming back to join them. (Okay, forget the bit about Ros and Adam !) Alec is in but asks how they will get all the information they need. Harry tells him that they have a person on the inside. Guess who that will be ! This will, of course mean secret meetings etc!

Naturally disaster is averted with evil person found out and day saved. Harry recalled to service, brings Alec with him. Harry and Ruth together. Harry happy and back to his old self, complete with sarcastic and humorous comments.

Other episodes for writers to decide but all end happily ever after !

oooh I'm liking the idea of Ros and Adam being alive... OK I know it will never happen but one can dream Loving the "Harry and Ruth together" line here... *Crawls back into corner fearing we are likely to have another series if Will they/won't they*

Thanks for all the positive comments. Wouldn't it be great if Kudos let us write an episode ! I'm pretty sure that, between us, we could do a great one.

If series 10 is the last one I can think of a possible last ever scene. Hopefully the series will make it clear that Harry and Ruth are together without making it a major storyline - just like the old days with looks, touches, occasional "thought we would go out to dinner tonight" and leaving together etc.)

On roof in the evening. Harry looks over the city. Ruth comes up and asks if he is ready to go home. Harry says "I have something to tell you" and Ruth says "And I you". Mirrors the scenes of Ep 1 of series 9. Harry tells Ruth that he thinks it is the right time to retire. Alec is back in the fold and is capable of taking over. Dimitri is ready for Section Leader and Tariq and Beth make up a great team. Looks at Ruth and says that the problem is that he doesn't want to lose her. From what she said before he knows that she believes that they will have no sort of life if he is outside the service. He tells her that he loves her and will always love her, no matter what they do or where they are. Ruth asks Harry to propose to her again which he does and she says yes. Ruth then tells him a) that she is pregnant (not sure how old she is?) or b) says that she was thinking of taking some time off from work and perhaps they could visit the great capitals of Europe together.

Camera pans out to show them, arms around each other with the city lights in the distance.

The End.

If Spooks reduces itself to The Harry and Ruth Show, with everything else a diverting backdrop to the soapland tale of how they overcame the evils of terrorism and sedition to find true love, I suspect you will not be alone in this reaction.

Now I need to find myself some kind of kevlar overcoat...

It's not all about Harry and Ruth, if Series 10 was the last, I think the last scene should focus on Harry since he's the one who's been there through everything But none of this romance stuff, too sweet, I would probably join in with Nitrus if it were some Harry and Ruth going into the sunset kind of ending... *shakes head* *whispers* and I'm one of the Harry/Ruth fans... hard to believe?

I think that would be one of the worst moves Spooks has ever made if that were ever to happen...

Even in fan fiction, I just really hate that idea
