The problem with this perfectly reasonable instruction is that the writers of season 9, in issuing the "confrontation which will change Section D forever" edict, have more or less hijacked their own cause. It is possible that only the fine old-fashioned distraction technique of stunt casting will save them now. Perhaps some tedious sleb with an ill-advised desire to try acting can be wheeled in to play the part of the anti-Harry while the investigation gets underway. I'm going for national-sweetheart (apparently) Cheryl Cole, in the role of a world class Secret Service officer, operating so far under the radar she has been able to pass for years as a shiny singing star, but has now returned to The Grid to fulfil her destiny as Cheryl-Ace-of-Spies. It could work |

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
Let's hope MI5 revamps its questionable vetting process! And let's hope Harry actually gets a Section Chief that doesn't have betrayal tendencies, or break-down tendencies, or personality-change tendencies, or lying tendencies. Maybe he can get an actual normal person! How great of a change would that be!
Clearly Tariq, Dimitri, and Beth could use some normal-people influences in this nut-house! RIP Carter Hall ~ Hawkman |

Luckily for herself CC has just got a 7-figures contract in USA, so she should not be around at the time of filming season 10.. What season 10 needs is a good casting for the Section Chief (Alec will be around as IA expert defence for Harry, I hope) and set the stories for Dimitri and Beth, if there is a plan for a season 11... If season 10 is the last, then I see max 6 episodes filmed, with 3-4 cases or an arc-long one (Nightingale/Yalta?) solved, and no return of Tom or Zoe or other previous agents from the past. *sighs* Tariq, Beth, and Dimitri are doomed.......with the influences those three have had, they're bound to grow up to be neurotic anyways.....it's destiny.....

Can people please stick to discussion over actual/rumoured casting? That is what this thread is for. That and I find that much more interesting than the 'Lucas and Writers shambles' discussion which seems to be leaking everywhere on the forum right now. Sorry to sound like a pain but it's starting to bug me. The series 9 topic isn't what i joined this thread to discuss. ________________________________________________________________ Silktie has made a good point in a different thread i think. I don't really see any problem with Alec being section chief. He appears to be good at his job and he's not your usual choice. Considering the track record of the previous section chiefs i would be rather happy with him. I'm hoping that he was cast as a continuing role and will be staying on. It was just great casting for him and like i said before, it would be a shame to waste it if it were only meant for the one episode. Codename Kirayuki: Vid Maker. H/R & Ruth fan. |

What do people think about the HomeSec returning? William Towers I think his name was?

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
Keep Alec as IA expert or something like that, I'd much rather get an actual normal person to be Section Chief.
As for sticking to rumored/actual casting, well seeing as how we don't even know right now who is leaving and who is coming other than the possibility of Alec, there really isn't any casting to talk about except the hopes of a few that no strange storyline will change another character. I'm hoping the Home Sec would be staying, unless he has an accident or dies, don't they normally stay for at least a season or two if they aren't presumed dead by the end of a series? Maybe we can keep a normal Home Sec this time who isn't part of a global conspiracy or die in a bombing. RIP Carter Hall ~ Hawkman |

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
I think he will be in it until the end now.
He was again well cast but as a character i don't really know where i stand with him. He's okay i guess, and i have a strange feeling that we aren't meant to like him too much. He's trying to help Harry but he's also firmly stuck to the rules and his job. I say he was well cast as despite this angle to the character, he pulls it off. I would be able to continue watching his character through next series quite happily. He fits the Home Secretary role rather well. (Comfortably even). Codename Kirayuki: Vid Maker. H/R & Ruth fan. |

Someone for Harry to bat off, a kind of nemesis at times. Those scenes of them together were one of the highlights of the series for me. I am still not sure of Alec. I need to do a full rewatch of 9.8 again. He just didn't do much for me I am afraid, but will give him the benefit of the doubt for now. I just found him a little too calm and cool. Not much emotion there. |

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
I still think we need some "normal" people on the Grid to counter all the craziness of the rest of the baby-Spooks and Mama/Papa-Spooks!
I mean, one baby-Spook always gets terrible ideas, another has a sketchy past, a third freaks out crashing french mobile networks, and then you got a Mama and Papa-Spook who can't seem to ever admit their feelings! Surely there needs to be a normal human being on the Grid to balance it! RIP Carter Hall ~ Hawkman |
