I just read that fan fic as well! You're right, it really hits the nail on the head, it's very believable, I hope the writters see it too, and take that kind of path on In S10
I think the team do notice the tension between Harry and Ruth, they just choose not to comment on it, Dimitri in particular, and Lucas of course, which helped him really when he chose to kidnap Ruth, he knew Harry would never let her die

Ironically, I think the team finding out about Harry's feelings for Ruth the way they did - by her life being in danger and Harry going to the lengths he did to save her - may actually be a blessing in disguise. I think they also realise that Ruth reciprocates those feelings on some level: note the compassionate look Beth gives Ruth when Harry walks out to go and confront Lucas at the end. Because the team found out during such a fraught and emotionally charged operation, I don't think there will ever be any teasing done, or suspicions that Ruth is trying to sleep her way to the top, or that Harry is merely in it for a shag with a subordinate. These types of reactions are common when any office romance comes to light.

From the way both Harry and Ruth acted, it is now clear to the rest of the team that this is not just an office fling, but something much deeper.

Good points. Plus the team is different now. Ros (for all her eventual good qualities) started out being a bitter bitch. Jo was also very bitchy then and Adam just a teaser. Back then, Ruth was still the desk spook trying to prove herself and seeking approval. Now she is more confident (professionally) and seems to be of a higher rank than the new juniors. Beth, Demetri and even Tariq would handle Ruth and Harry's relationship much better I think.

I as well think because Beth, Dimitri and Tariq respect Harry and Ruth as individual people, it doesn't really bother them about their personal relationship... they won't tease Ruth like back in S5 because they repect her too much as a friend and a colleague.
Good points, that Ros back then was a bitter cow, but I think Jo was just trying to be friendly, after all it was Jo that convinced Ruth to talk to Harry in 8.2, and she always seemed to support H/R, Adam was just Adam,
I think back then Ruth just couldn't handle everyone knowing about it, but now, during S9 it doesn't seem like it bothers her. The rest of the team don't even question her relationship with Harry, until Lucas turned into JB and went after Albany, Harry and Ruth's personal life isn't really brought onto the Grid and if it is, it's personal between them, no one else gets involved and no one else 'wants' to get involved.

Back to Ros, I think she knew she had made a mistake in 5.5, and that a lot of the blame was on her for Ruth being exiled. Only after she reported Ruth to Mace, and when Harry sacrificed himself to save her did it really hit Ros just how close Harry and Ruth were, so when Ruth returned, she was more careful, not only because of the events of S5, but also because of the situation in S8, I think Ros saw after a while just how much Harry and Ruth had been through, how much they mean to each other and her respect levels went up...

To me it seems that Dimitri and Tariq are the two that seem to understand Ruth and Harry's relationship most, someone said before, Beth's a little confused over it. Perhaps Lucas told Dimitri about some of Ruth and Harry's complicated relationship, it was Lucas that recruited him, and of course Tariq has been working there for longer so he would've noticed in S8
I agree I think the team now, Beth, Dimitri, Tariq and even Alec would handle Harry and Ruth's relationship a lot better... so Ruth's got nothing to worry about this time

It's not surprising Beth is confused. If she still lives with Ruth, she will know that they don't see each other outside work. She must therefore find it a little odd that others accept that they have a relationship, when she sees scant physical evidence of it. To be fair, she has a point!

But do they have a relationship? Harry may want a closer relationship with Ruth, but Ruth was not reciprocating. Lucas knew that Harry could be manipulated be using Ruth, but Ruth did not answer Lucas when he said 'you love him, don't you?'.

Just because they all know about the "non" Harry and Ruth relationship, doesn't necessarily mean they would handle it a lot better. Some people will always gossip. It's how they make themselves "popular" until the tables turn on them.

Also, who would like working closely with the person who is "seeing" the Boss, or may be "seeing" the boss, but you can't quite be sure. You wouldn't talk about the same things with that person would you? You would treat Ruth differently, not necessarily in a horrible way, if she was "seeing" Harry. That thought for Ruth, who has not always fitted in with her bookish ways, is probably still as abhorrent as it was back in S5.

I wouldn't ever characterise the gossip in 5.3 as being unkind. It's not as though anyone accused Ruth of getting ahead or using Harry or anything along the same lines. I certainly don't think Jo was ever bitchy, I disagree with that analysis.

I was saying it wasn't bitchy but some people don't like to be talked about, full stop.
