I don't think the gossip in 5.3 was meant as unkind but I think Ruth certainly experienced it as such. She tells Harry that people were laughing about them - showing that she took it as that people are mocking them.

At least this time round people won't be laughing about it. How could they, given everything that's happened? TL is right that people will still talk, but I think that will rather be the people outside Section D. The immediate team will probably not do so due to the manner in which things happened.

And it's very true that people will treat her differently if she is in a relationship with Harry. However, this time round it may not be in a way that she finds abhorrent. This new team is not yet the close family that the season 4/5 team had become. And this time round Ruth is an established senior member of the team.

As much as I love Ruth, I do think she was a bit thin skinned on this.

Also, who would like working closely with the person who is "seeing" the Boss, or may be "seeing" the boss, but you can't quite be sure. I agree people will treat Ruth differently if they think she and Harry are together. They probably wouldn't speak as freely in front of her, and not intentionally, exclude her from the general office chat.

I think even if Harry and Ruth didn't get together, the team would still treat Ruth differently than before the whole Albany thing, after eveything that happened with Lucas, surely they would all become aware of the reason Lucas took Ruth and no one else. Wouldn't they act more cautiously and choose their words carefully for a while?
But if they were together it would be the same thing, Ruth would be treated differently, and it would be more evident, but would she let it get in the way? I don't think the team would mean to be nasty in anyway, it would just be general gossip,
It doesn't upset Harry so much, he just brushes it off and is probably used to being talked about anyway, but Ruth, she's always been scared of it
I hope she manages to let that go, like Lucas told her "Be selfish for once", take a chance without worrying about what other people think

Just a question, would Dimitri and Beth, or even Tariq know about Ruth being exiled in 5.5? Did Lucas even know. Do they know the story behind it?

If there is going to be an enquiry into Harry's career, that is surely going to be one of the chapters that is examined a bit more carefully. So the rest of the team are going to find out about it if they don't know already. I wonder if this whole enquiry storyline isn't a way of reintroducing old themes, and also using old footage. Maybe there are deleted scenes they can use.

If there are only to be 6 episodes then rehashing old scenes is a cop out. If they used this as a means of giving us 8 episodes with lots of new stuff in too, then it's acceptable, so long as it's not too much.

True, using old scenes in 6 episodes is just a way of using up time really, for 8 Episodes its not so bad.
I'd love to see some flashbacks of Harry's past, not old clips from old Series but freshly shot for stuff S10..
Was also thinking earlier, there are obviously parts of Harry and Ruths personal past we haven't seen would they bring them up, I think, when Mani mentioned it back in 8.1 Ruth was with Harry in Baghdad? Talks about the Uranium? And there should be more times where they worked together that we never saw...

Just as long as theres not too much revealed about Harry's past, clips from previous series could be interesting, just not too many

I'm surprised you guys seem to think Ruth will be treated differently if she were to go with Harry. To be honest, the members of the team we have now don't really strike me as caring about that all too much. I think Ruth impresses both Dimitri and Beth very much and while they might make a few jokes early on in the piece, the way they've been characterised thus far doesn't really tell me that they are likely to shut Ruth out. Part of this is due to the fact that office chat really isn't as much a part of the show as it used to be.

I'll reserve judgement until we see who comes in to replace Lucas, but truthfully I think the team chatting or not chatting about them is the least of the problems standing in their way, should they decide to try. And that's a big 'if'.

I agree, it seems really that Beth and Dimitri don't really mind, they act very professionaly, Dimitri though does have time for the odd joke around but that's just his personality, but I don't think Ruth see's it that way, every time that Beth or Dimitri might even mention her and Harry's personal relationship, or something relating to it Ruth might take it the wrong way and see it as them gossiping, that's what happened really in S5, Malcolm was pleased for them and meant no harm, but Ruth still couldn't stand it, although with Beth and Dimitri its more of a Ros type reaction: They don't notice it as much
I don't think they would shut Ruth out, but they might tread more cafeully around her if anything concerns her and Harry, professionaly or personally.

Oh Definatly, office chat is the least of the problems for them... there's a lot of problems coming their way especially if the enquiry doesn't go well for Harry
