RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
^Sure
What do people think of the likelihood of Harry and Ruth for series ten? I am just asking because I can't decide myself. One second I think they will end up together and the next I think it's just not possible and it's all going to end sadly. I would like to think that the tears at the end of 9.8 from Ruth were carthatic and about moving on but after reading some writer comments I am not so sure if I interpreted that scene correctly. It was all very ambiguous. I would like to see Harry and Ruth together though eventually because I would love to see a mature, older relationship on screen and how it works within the context of spying. What do other people think? |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
What I want to have happen and what I think they are going to do are two different things. I think they are going to continue to string us along. I think the best we can hope for is a reconciliation at the very, very end but only if S10 is the last series. OR they are going to get them together only to tear them apart again.
As for Ruth's tears at the end of 9.8, I too thought they were cathartic but I am now wondering if they are a topple over in her own abyss. I would not mind the later if Harry is there to catch her - figuratively speaking. Which would be something we have never seen before. With the exception of Malcolm who retired on his own accord, every other character that has exited the programme has been unsaveable, including Zoe and Tom. Then again, I thought Ruth might be the baddie of S9, so what do I know!?! I very rarely predict this programme correctly. That's why I like it! Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
After the developments in season 8 - Ruth asking Harry for a drink, comforting him on the roof etc, I was relatively certain something would happen in season 9. We'd get a hug at the very least, I thought.
Boy was I wrong. I'm much less certain about what we might get in the next season, mainly because I'm not sure where they want to take both characters from here. Does Harry still want to do the job? And will Ruth find a way not to be 'dead inside' any more? I hope they move it on and show us a relationship, but I'm not holding my breath this time. |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
I'm kind of hoping for a get together right at the beginning of series 10. I'm thinking Ruth seeing Harry for the first time after he went off to meet Lucas and realising hes alive running up and throwing her arms round him, can't seee it happening but its nice to dream.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
I'm with you, jacko. Ruth needs to go throw her arms around Harry at the very beginning and then let's move on with it. We WANT to see them in a relationship and working together at the same time. How great would that be? Just do it! I know one of the writers expressed concern that their relationship has to be realistic. Ummm, as realistic as the whole Lucas debacle? Don't get me started!

Exactly, and I don't know how it can be anything other than realistic with PF and NW acting it out, just look at the past 9 years. Writers those guys know what they are doing so let em get on with it LOL.

I'd like them to get together, but I think it will really be a question of whether them having a relationship will make "good drama" or not As Silktie says... I'm not holding my breath!

Ooooh this threads become full of life!!!!

Hmmm not sure, pulling in the direction that they will is that NW and PF, The writters, the directors and fans want them to get together, pulling in the direction that they won't is the question of whether it makes good TV that will keep people watching or whether it would just come to a standstill if they did get together, because the whole will they/ wont they thing would end I agree!! I'd love to see how it develops and pans out! It would very interesting to see a mature, older relationship develop rather just seeing the young ones (I speaks of Lucas's and Adam's relationships ) (22-03-2011 03:49 PM)Silktie Wrote: After the developments in season 8 - Ruth asking Harry for a drink, comforting him on the roof etc, I was relatively certain something would happen in season 9. I think thats what was so frustrating about S9, that after S8 it was expected the relationship would grow closer, and maybe they'd get together, they gave it the chance when Harry asked Ruth to marry him, and I can understand why she said no, I mean they weren't even together as a couple, in a way its like asking your best friend to marry you without being in a relationship with them... and it came out of nowhere, but it did create a little more tension with Ruth trying to avoid it for the rest of S9... then of course 9.8 happened and I hope her chat with Lucas can make her change her mind and at least give a relationship with Harry a chance I'm not sure he wants the job anymore, but surely Harry would fight the enquiry so he's not disgraced and then sacked for committing treason As for Ruth, the writters said S9 there was a lot of character development which develops even more and sets itself up in S10... so that dead inside feeling, may not go away I hope they do too, Stop with the whole will they wont they we've seen for so long and let them move on, be kind please writters (22-03-2011 05:08 PM)Byatil Wrote: I'd like them to get together, but I think it will really be a question of whether them having a relationship will make "good drama" or not As Silktie says... Haha I think I might have been the one that started the Ruth as bad theory over on the other forum. I was pretty convinced for awhile there. Tbh I am of the opinion that the will they/won't they can no longer viably be considered good drama for a lot of viewers because people are just getting tired of it. Frankly, I fail to see how getting two people together in a meaningful if complicated relationship isn't good drama. Surprisingly, I really thought the Ruth story arc for series nine was absolutely necessary, mainly because in my opinion the writers for series eight slipped up with Ruth's return and the loss of her new family (I think Nicola expressed dissatisfaction with this somewhere too but can't remember where now?) and went back to the will they/won't they in a way that was rather inconsistent for me. When I think of Ruth's story I think of episode's 8.1-3 and then skip to 9.1 in terms of how I feel the character developement should have gone realistically speaking. BUT now that she's had her cry and seen who Harry is and who she is I think its time they moved on and I think it would be believable for that to happen now. The only problem is it depends on wether or not she chooses to listen to Lucas. She could quite legitimately ignore his opinion based on the fact that he was a murderer and a psychopath and therefore still keep pushing Harry away. Actually, when I first started watching Spooks, I thought after Danny died Ruth would be the next to go via the nervous breakdown route because of never having time to grieve and I do see that as possibly happening too. I also have written a fic where Ruth just can't take it anymore and finds someone else. I think that's also a possibility. As others have pointed out elsewhere though, if Ruth is told Albany is a fake would that change things coupled with the carthatic tears? Was that Harry giving Ruth a chance to see who he really is? |

I also fail to understand why it would be unrealistic for them to get together. Why? People say it, but never really explain it. "It's complicated" is not an explanation!!!! NW and PF know the characters best. If they think it should happen, how can that possibly be an unrealistic scenario? Everyone keeps ignoring the power of sex appeal! |
