What is your Royal Wedding guest name?

RE: What is your Royal Wedding guest name?
Actually, the Dutch got here before you, but let's not turn this thread into a debate about the evils of colonialism, or Republic vs Monarchy. The point I was trying to make is that our known, written history is much younger than Britain's.

If you surf the web you'll find plenty of threads where people that can lip read posted all that was said. I can't remember off-hand reading what Harry said to Wills though.

Here's one Picard. Pretty much the same one being picked up by all news sources.

The sweetest thing is how her father and William kept asking her if she was OK. What a surreal experience this must have been for her!

I think part of the reason that this has resonated in the US so strongly is partly because of the tradition and ceremony. Seriously, my British cousins, no one does it as well as you do! Also, we have the luxury of enjoying it from a very pure perspective without any politics involved at all. But most importantly, Americans love the optimism of a "Local Girl Makes Good" story. It feeds into every stereotype of "being American" there is.

From a personal aspect, I think the reason it caught my imagination was that is was something positive to see for once. I was the same way with the rescue of the Chilean miners for the same reason.

And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Thanks for the link ACousin. I think it's funny how even the aristocracy say "yeah" now, instead of "yah". We'll 'ave 'em talkin' proper in no time, old sons!

"Where's Harry?"
"Moving in mysterious ways."

Totally loved the day especially Kate exclaiming, "Oh, wow" on the balcony. I also thought the Queen looked very happy and content. Perhaps she knows now that the monarchy is in safe hands when she no longer reigns over us.

No one can do it like the Brits. Truly. (Wish David Beckham had pinned his OBE on the correct side though!! Footballers!!)

I heard about this but would not have known the difference had it not been pointed out to me. Blush

I thought the Queen seemed to be extracting herself from being the focus whenever possible. Which was nice. I also loved loved loved how Michael Middleton sang "God Save the Queen" with over-flowing conviction right to her across the aisle. I suppose you'd have too, but it was still great!

Haha! You are, like, so welcome, picard. Wink The best one is Prince William's crack to Michael Middleton about the size of the affair.

You touch on a good point. There is a certain air of normal commonness (in the best possible interpretation of the word) about them. They are in a position to do so much good. I am probably the last to find out that the income from the sales of the program are being donated to William & Harry's foundation? That's a good start.

Yes, you wear your own medal on the left. If you are wearing someone else's such as if you are a war widow, you wear them on the right hand side. This is why you should wear your poppy on remembrance day on the right, because that is the side you would have worn your husband's medals who died in the war. (Think I have that right.)

Never knew that TL, I'll always make sure I wear me poppy on the correct side from now on!

I did manage to avoid most of the wedding, even though Hubby watched it continuously from about 9 am to 2 pm. I did like the bride and groom driving off from Buckingham Palace in their own car covered with balloons etc, thought that was a nice touch. And all the crowds were so well behaved....proud to be British.

PS Love the new signature Tea Lady!

What has been nice is the tide of British pride - that's a nice feeling. Hope it sticks. We're usually so down on ourselves.
