Like The Tortoise and Hare: slow and steady wins the race. I think he's also twisting the knife into Harry a bit, e.g. Ilya has been able to balance the professional and personal in a way Harry has not. Althought, JH's voice has been ringing eerily through my ears: "And a tortoise... in de gar-den." *Shudder!* He's one creepy dude! The only other coherent thought I have been able to form is that Bharat Nalluri is a f*ckin' genius! This was one of the most visually stunning, exquisitely directed and expertly paced episodes of the 10 series. So good to have him back making the magic he created in the first place. It almost makes feel that if they had to go out, going out with Mr. Nalluri makes it worth it. Almost. Now cracks a noble heart. RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
What an emotional roller coaster this series is proving to be. The acting and filming is leaving me completely mesmerised. I need to sleep on each episode and then re-watch before I can even start to put thoughts into words.
This series arc is the best there has ever been, and it was wonderful to immerse totally in this superb story. The one on one scenes are breath-taking. I am so glad they have given up on the unrelated threats of the week. And yet they still managed to cram in car chases; Ruth stealing that laptop with style and even a bomb. I really thought that Towers had bought it! The Harry and Ruth scenes were everything I could wish for; episode 5 and we've already had a kiss. I'm holding out for the 'real event' to happen in the final one. I can't believe that is it for us H/R fans. There are so many moments to ooh and aah over! Harry's face while Gavrik was talking about his tortoise; the scene in the car - 'I understand guilt...and jealousy too'; tipping the milk away (what an inspired piece of writing!); Harry sitting in the interview room with his hands tied and then getting hit (B**TARD!). I could go on! Masterful episode! |

Going into the series I doubted the writers would allow H&R to come together, but now they are dropping so many crumbs, I fear, just like you that Series 10 Spoiler: show As for this episode to add to my earlier comments, let's go to the wit. SRB had some corker lines, "into the valley of death" at the US embassy tying with "i won't gift wrap him and drop him down the chimney' for first place. He's the best HS Spooks has had. But why does he think every phone call Ruth gets is from HArry and every time she's out of the office she's with him? Love it. And I loved the code of 1776, wry indeed. A note to the CIA men and also to the CIA impersonators - it's MR Pearce to you or Sir Harry, no matter what he's done he isn't some lowly agent named 'Pearce' thank you |

So when Ruth was marking time trying to hack into the laptop with Sasha's gun to her head, did anyone else yell, "Try 1776!" at her? At least Coaver proves that we cousins aren't all assholes and idiots! Only the marines, apparently. I think the threats-of-the-week have been very much related, thematically. And sometimes even directly parallel to the past actions and /or emotions of Harry/Elena/Coaver/Ilya. No doubt about it in my mind really, they are functioning as the Greek Chorus. I didn't miss them in this episode, though, b/c their purpose has been served. Now cracks a noble heart. RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
I can't see anyway the writers would give Harry and Ruth a happy ending - it is all going to be very fraught next week and my prediction (based on nothing) is that Harry will die saving Ruth from some threat. Ruth will then be left with the memory of a few kisses and many missed opportunities with Harry but will go on to become one of the greatest 'M' the Spooks have ever had
It was very sad when Coaver died because it appears that he was a true friend to Harry and if the series had been longer, it would have been good to see him working with Harry to try and crack the mystery of the 'ghost' Harry. Goddammit, it is so frustrating that this is the last series and only 6 episodes - oh why, oh why????? (collapses sobbing over the laptop) xx |

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
I am afraid that Ruth will be killed trying to save Harry. If Harry is killed, Ruth will leave the service. He is preparing her for his eventual death or emprisonment. He wants her to be happy, even if it is on the Suffolk coast.
Why in turn can't we have happy thoughts about the H/R conclusion? It really makes me mad that we are expecting the worst outcome, just because it is Spooks. |

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
Wow. I've only just had a chance to watch this episode as i have to work Sunday nights, and I have to say it has definitely been the best of the series so far. Last week I was in complete disagreement with people who thought Coaver was being set up-I thought that if he was we'd have been let in on it by ep. 4-how wrong I was! Just one question if anyone can help (apologies if this has already been raised elsewhere on the forum): how did Sasha Gavrik come to be listening in on the conversation between Harry and Ruth, where they discussed stealing Coavers laptop? Call me dense, but I couldn't work out whether one or the other of them knew he was listening in. Maybe a re-watch will help.
Can't believe there is only one episode left of this fantastic show. Theres not many programmes I make a special effort not to miss, and this time next week there will be one fewer. Just hope H & R are both alive at the end of it and, preferably, happy. |

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
Just watched last night's episode (because I was out last night) and all I can say is, in the words of Ron Weasley, "That was BLOODY BRILLIANT!"
Right up among the all time best episodes, I think. Gripping, dramatic, and at it's heart, some classic Spooks lines. It's all building to a memorable finale next week. if it's half as good, the series is going out on a high, which is how it should always be. "Cometh the hour, cometh the geek" Sir Harry Pearce |

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
One of my favorite episodes of Spooks ever. Definitely rewarding for a H/R shipper.
Question: Did anyone wonder why it seemed that Ruth was reluctant or afraid to take Coaver's laptop to Harry's flat? There was definitely something going on in that scene when they discuss it on the phone. Ruth expresses misgivings, and Harry squints mysteriously into his car mirror. I was wondering whether Ruth was nervous to be alone with him - was feeling shy - or whether there was something greater going on there. In any event, whatever it was seemed to have been forgotten by the time Sasha took the laptop, so it may not have been important. Also - where is Scarlet? I guess I am glad she's not there if Harry won't ever be returning home. And since we probably won't get an answer, I will pretend she has been adopted by a nice family who walk her every day and let her sleep on a chair next to the fire. |
