zzQuestion Possibly the best Series?
I really liked this series, it had a bit of everything and the storylines were very "of the time". Despite Adam's breakdown it was a good series.

What did you think?

Five was good...if not for the obvious sub-plot going on between Ruth and Harry. Loved Adam's breakdown because well it's just Adam! Smile Loved Ros who came in toward the middle this series, still unsure of those around her, but so cold and ruthless. The complete reverse of sweet Ruth. We seemed to have had the best team to date in this series. Who could forget Zaf! Jo the rookie, still finding her feet! Smile

Yet it has the lowest viewing figures of any series before it!

Thats really strange....for me 5 especially and 6 were when I became really hooked. I watched 1-4 on and off, but still bought the dvd's.

RE: Possibly the best Series?
Other than Danny's murder in Series 3, Series 5 is where I crossed a personal Rubicon with this show. Emotional commitment became 100%. (This happened in the viewing process of Bleak House, too.) Flickers of it within the Sopranos. Used to happen back in the 80's every now and then with Wise Guy (US/Sopranos front-runner), but TV in the 80's was not as remotely evolved as it is now.

Wise Guy! I loved that show. It was waayyy before it's time. It would fit in with television today for sure.

RE: Possibly the best Series?
Ros definitely was the opposite of Ruth, but it made the show better to have the contrast between the two characters. Shame that Ruth left part way through Sad

DANNY - Placements all over the shop. Back up vehicles, chopper support if we need it. Bomb disposal with a signal jammer for Mary’s trademark remote control blasts. And Tom here’s doing the catering. Mate. You are so covered.

RE: Possibly the best Series?
It is probably my favourite series. Loved Adam's breakdown storyline and the Ruth/Harry sub plot. Ruth's exit episode was fantastic. Ros was an excellent addition.

I enjoyed near enough all the episodes, with the third, fourth and fifth episodes sticking out as my favourites especially.

RE: Possibly the best Series?
I found Series 5 being the turning point from a top British show, in the likes of "Tinker Tailor Sailor Spy"'s TV adaptation, to a Hollywood-esque copycat borne on action scenes and if often good story topics, very unbelievable plots.

Seems like they were unable to write an episode without the characters waving a Glock every 5 minutes... It just didn't jive and lost the "plausibility" of the first 4 seasons.

Running in London streets with a gun in your hand and no cop show up ?
Constantly cocking a hammer that does not exist ? (DAO handguns such as the Sig Sauers and the Glocks used there do not have apparent hammers) Oh come on...

In the first seasons Tom or Danny would call in the "heavies", weather MPS Armed Response or even SAS. Since S5 the spooks just bust doors and barge in a flat full of terrorists without even the basic safety gear such as a vest...

Nah, the good years stopped at S4... After that they sacrificed credibility to US-style action scenes. Too bad, the European touch was so peculiar.

RE: Possibly the best Series?
At the time I thought 5 was the best, then 6 and now 7. It just gets better each series. Brilliant. Smile
