It's not a definite thing, but if you
Spoiler: show
look up Richard Armitage's record on IMDB and look at what he's working on in 2010, he has another show in the works. It is only six episodes, but I'm partially working based on my own belief he wouldn't be around for very long.

On the issue of who's leaving:

Spoiler: show
I agree with bertowud that Richard Armitage is an obvious contender to leave, but Miranda Raison is also involved in several projects due to film or be released in the first half of next year. Maybe we've found the 2 suspects? I think it's possible Jo will go mid way through the season, followed by Lucas at the end.

RE: Who will be killed?
Richard is already filming Strike Back in South Africa and it's supposed to finish in December.

I can't see them killing off Richard yet as he is an assest to the program. If he hadn't worked out when he first joined Spooks I can see Kudos getting rid of him but not as he is popular. Unless of course Richard wants to leave and as he says he hopes he will be back for Spooks 9 if they recomminssion.

RE: Who will be killed?
Hmm .. the plot thickens: two possibilities for the 'chop' and on good grounds too. It's possible that the writers may be able to accommodate the actors' committments elsewhere in the Spooks script, by plotting the actors in question "missing in action" or ill (shot and in recovery?).

RE: Who will be killed?
Spooks 8 was only filmed between March and May of 09... so maybe he's filming this series now... it's not impossible for him to commit to two roles.. especially as they are only 8 and 6 episodes respectively..

RE: Who will be killed?
That's a really short filming period! Every other year, even for 6 or 8 episodes, Spooks usually takes somewhere between 5 and 7 months, and I thought they went through until July. That's less than 2 weeks filming per episode, and it's very rare for an entire season of a drama (both in the UK or the US) to be filmed that fast. Where did you read that Nitrus?

Jumping back on thread:
Spoiler: show
I'd be surprised if Malcolm left for whatever reason. The first I've already talked about: Malcolm's popularity with Kudos and with the writers/producers. The second is that Hugh Simon's been working long enough to know that a gig playing a regular and beloved character doesn't come around that often, especially for a "character" actor. I think he'll see out the series.

I think there's a strong dramatic argument in favour of having survivors like Malcolm and Harry last the series. It's often commented in whatever true tales filter down from the really tough sections of security services throughout the world that people constantly leaving is a reality. In many ways, seeing the trail of destruction and the countless lives destroyed gives Harry and, I would argue, Malcolm, his purpose. Malcolm doesn't like bullies and I think he'd want to stick around, especially after Connie's betrayal, Harry's kidnapping and (hopefully) Ruth's return.

Long post but hopefully a worthwhile one.

Nitrus, is there an appropriate place for discussion of writers and directors on the show?

It was on the Spooks Wikipedia page.. it has been deleted now.. maybe it was wrong. Who knows.. the point is, it's not impossible for him to do more than one show at once.

That would come under "General Discussion" Big Grin

Not impossible at all - in 2007 Robert Glenister filmed some Spooks eps, then 6 eps of Hustle, then was called back to do more Spooks, and was on stage at the National in the evenings and weekends!
