Favourite films?

I'm actually a huge fan of the Hellboy comic. I dislike the first Hellboy movie and hate the second one.

I did like Pan's Labyrinth and Blade II.

Hobbit should be good though.

I forgot to say that I have a special tradition involving Fight Club. I like to watch it on my birthday (it wasn't that long ago) eating scrambled eggs for dinner. I'm pretty low key.

There's always this problem with comics and films, I don't read many comics (I'd like to read more) but I find that films based on comics dissapoint the comic fans, for example, I'm a huge fan of Asterix & Obelix, the animated films are pretty good but the film with Gerard Depardieu is horrible, they mixed a lot of comics in that one. I wasn't able watch the whole film, it was driving me mad!!

Has anyone watched Ágora? The one with Rachel Welz? I went to the cinema on Sunday and loved it!

I like the Hellboy comic and the first film. To be honest I haven't seen the second. The first two Spiderman movies were great too, and I grew up on those comics. And I loved XMen 1& 2 - again, I grew up on those.

I am really looking forward to Agora though - it's not here yet.

And Hellboy is usually popular with the fans, but I do know some who didn't go for it. Like my brothers.

Love Amadeus. Very literate script and great to look at. Also really enjoyed The Last King of Scotland.

I am a fan of the Bourne films, even if the third one wasn't as good as the first two. I like their air of melancholy; most 'adventure' films are really bad and one-dimensional, the Bourne films for me are not like that. I know some on here may disagree.

The only film I have ever had to stop watching owing to its distasteful nature was a nearly forgotten French (or was it Belgian?) film called Man Bites Dog. It was very funny and very black in its humour but it was just wrong. If you've seen it you might know what I mean!

Yeah, the Hellboy films are generally more popular with the fans. Most of the Hellboy fans I know found the comics through the movies. The first film is Mignola's Hellboy through del Toro's eyes. The second film is Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy. I get it. My 5 year old daughter liked it. I keep falling asleep watching it. Mignola is working with del Toro on the Hobbit film.

Of course it's like movies based on any other media. There are elements to the source media that makes it work differently, so they have to change things to make it work as a film.

Yeah, it sorts splits different ways with his stuff. I love both, and Guillermo is like Peter Jackson in the sense that he really takes on projects he believes in. Mignola is a classic example, he finds him really inspiring, and was behind Hellboy for 15 years until the premiere of that film. Pan's Labyrinth was exquisite, a truly incredible movie. I'm tremendously excited he's doing The Hobbit.

I'm really disappointed this morning because some of my friends out here who just saw Ricky Gervais' new movie reckon it's not very good. I was so looking forward too it!

Not seen Gervais' new film yet but then again has he set himself up for an almighty fall? I watched Ghost Town and it was not a bad film, but then it wasn't psychologically sound either. One minute he's a near-autistic social failure, the next he's quipping away like a Friends character. Not believable really. Pegg has almost sold out; I hope Gervais does not do the same.
