RE: Episode 1 Discussion
There was something very different about the way first epiosde was filmed.it had an American feel to it. But I really loved it. NW was fantastic Always love HN and PF Still not sure about RH miss RPJ he was tasty and had quite a presence The story had me totally griped from begining to end I kept expecting someone to die. Can,t wait for the next installment

Not sure what you mean by 'American feel', sam b, but it had those subtle zooms and slightly wonky perspectives throughout. Not saying it's a bad thing but I did notice early on and then kept thinking about that and not watching the action!

RE: Episode 1 Discussion
Finally saw it -- bless you for suggesting fastpasstv.com. Great episode -- Harry's brilliant, Ros is a bitch (in her own inimitable way), not terribly interested in the foreshadowed relationship between Lucas and the new CIA lady, welcome back NW, and Malcolm . . . I love that character and his exit was pure and clean. I'll miss him and the underscored, subtle texture he gave to the Grid.

I'm pulling for the HR relationship -- the looks between them could melt ice and speak to some serious subtext.

Ready to join the discussion! Big Grin

I liked the ep!! Harry and Ruth scenes had me expectant of what would happen. I was surprised at Malcom outburst, I knew he had to react to Ros but he's always so controlled and calmed, it surprised me.

I don't like CIA agent either, first I thought it was because I don't like her too near to Lucas Rolleyes, at the end when she said that about 'pay back' I got the impression, that through the episode she seemed a little dull, not giving much to the episode. I felt everyone kept the pace of the episode while in her scenes it was slowed down. At least with that line about having her pay back, make her character more interesting.

Loved how Malcom saved the boy, I expected him to die though, I was sure the man would shoot him. It's good he retire, it gives a cue for him to be able to come back and it's actually different, you're used that most of the go by dying some surprising death that by not dying it's also surprising, IMO. I think being still Ruth, would give her the sense of being still herself that leads a simple life. With a fake name it would be like impersonating someone else.

Yeah, the whole scene was amazing.

Quote:Yes, you would have thought you would torture Harry first anD then if that didn't work, you bring Ruth in
I think they were somewhat in a hurry. They didn't have all that much time, knowing MI5 would be looking for Harry and that he's a strong man, trained for hard situations that even with torture it would have taken long. Last season Harry was under torture and still said nothing. Maybe they thought that by bringing Ruth in from the beginning it would accelerate things up.

RE: Episode 1 Discussion
OMG! OMG!! I'm shocked, really shocked, though reading all your comments have calmed me down a little Tongue

I loved/hated this start, just joking Tongue for me was great, it surprised me a lot and I love Spooks for that.

First, I must say I love Ruth, she's one of my fav characters in Spooks (you can tell from my avatar), I was astonished when I saw she was married (I said noooo, whyyy?) but I think it was the right and normal thing to do (and I was glad for her, she deserved it), she was supposed not to come back to Britain; and one of the things I thought, when she and her family returned to London, they have to break up, I don't want them together!!

I don't think Ruth has changed too much, she is the old Ruth but the circumstances were critical for her, she had to rebuilt her life and once she was happy another change!

The moment Harry and Ruth saw each other again was heartbreaking...

As some of you said it was normal that Ruth called him heartless bastard, she was only thinking about her family, in the end she will understand.

It must have been horrible for Harry to watch Ruth like that...

I, actually, thought Malcolm was going to be shot, I was nearly crying... No wonder he decided to retire, but that's really sad Sad I'm going to miss him a lot... the person who replace him has to be very good to fill the big hole Malcolm left in our hearts. Tomsdouble is right! The only possible replacement for Malcolm would be Moss or Roy from The IT crowd!!! lol
I don't think we'll see him again...

The moment I saw the new CIA agent thought is like Christine Bale!!!

I don't think I miss anything! Sorry for the long long post Tongue I couldn't help it!

BTW, congrats you beated the record yesterday, 66 on line!!!

I thought this was a great start to the new series!

The guy from MI6 was a creep but I loved the scene in the car with Ros!!! And she had some great one liners! Big Grin

Aww Malcolm - I was so scared when he went into the safe house and was hiding behind a cushion!

But on a majorly shallow scale Lucas looked hot...... Thud

RE: Episode 1 Discussion
Good:
Funny thing is as much as I love Adam, didn't even think about him at all. I liked the story build up because it reminded me of some episodes past.

I like Ruth. I like her honesty and saying that she was happy. Thought it was very realistic for somebody not to miss that type of life.

Malcolm. He was great this episode...still sad about it...

Bad:
No chemistry between Lucas and CIA girl.
Is it me or is Ros getting more obnoxious. I used to love her bitchiness, but now it just isn't amusing. Down right rude. She is so dull without Adam....

On a more superficial note, Ros is actually looking much older with all that make up. Something is wrong with her face Huh

RE: Episode 1 Discussion
Well, that was certainly an emotional episode. Less suspense than whole sugarhorse saga though. I agree with you guys in that Ruth is very convincing in her new role, just not sure she will ever get to loving Harry again after what he was prepared to let happen to her boy...

RE: Episode 1 Discussion
Yeah, although Harry's stubborn dedication to always do what's necessary to save the country is one of the major reasons Ruth fell in love with him in the first place. Maybe three years from now she will remember that, and know that he had no choice as they probably would have killed the boy, and Ruth and Harry as well as soon as he told them what they wanted to know.

RE: Episode 1 Discussion
I loved the acting/characters all around in this episode...well...except for the new CIA lady. She was boring and her accent was the worst American accent I've heard on Spooks to date. I started giggling every time she spoke, and then the scenes were ruined. I wasn't happy about the apparent sparks between her and Lucas North either. I'm a big Armitage fan, and I really don't want him to end up with the boring CIA lady. I'm hoping the writers won't go the way of Tom and Christine.

Elisaveta: I agree! RA was looking mighty fine. I love him in the black shirts Wink.
