RE: Lucas and his tattoos
I'm so pleased to see that we're in to serious tattoo study/discussion rather then merely gratuitous ogling.......

Wink

MTA: "dum spiro spero" is latin, "gnothi seauton" is greek....what with those and Blake's images they must be a well educated lot in those Russian prisons.....

RE: Lucas and his tattoos
Presumably these tattoos are personal to Lucas and therefore his ideas, and he must be well educated to get into MI 5 in the first place. He likes Blake, he had the same picture in his flat as the one on his chest, which kirmostar identified as Ancient of Days.

RE: Lucas and his tattoos
I'm gratuitiously ogling while I study the tattoos I can assure you! In the flashback to the hanging scene in Ep4 you can clearly see that there is no wrist tatto but rather the larger band around his forearm. So that counts out the laser removal theory once he gets back to the UK! That pretty much ties up lack of continuity for that tattoo - any more?

RE: Lucas and his tattoos
In his right wrist in this season's eps, he's showed 3 black full circles forming a triangle which I think are not shown in S7. I try to see if in that pic in the 2nd page could be seen but even if it isn't the right angle, doesn't look to be there...

RE: Lucas and his tattoos
They are on his left wrist, visible in Season 8 Episodes 3. Lucas keeps his left wrist pretty much hidden in Season 7 but in the rest room scene with Harry in Season 7 Ep 1 the dots don't seem to be there although all of Lucas's tattoos, aside from those on his back, are quite pale in this scene.
He has 3 characters on his inside right wrist I can't make them out, looks a bit like A G X, when put into Google produces a language called Aghul, used by the Russian Fedaration but I think this is a bit obscure, prob means something else entirely! Anyway....in Season 7 it's there in Episode 1, not there in Episode 2 but reappears in Episode 3.
This is a better pic of the right wrist tattoo - it appears to be the Russian characters for D (Д) at the start and X at the end but I can't make out the middle one - is it Б?? which would make it DBX whatever that means

Yep, his left wrist. (23 years old and I still mix right with left Dodgy). Do you know if the dots mean something?

RE: Lucas and his tattoos
Not sure about the dots - but the pic I posted of them in the in the last reply looks like 5 dots like on the side of a dice?
Woo Hoo - "In the Russian Criminal World five dot tattoos are placed on the hand of an inmate. It stands for "I will not forget prison". Thank you Wikipedia - it really was as easy as just putting in 5 dots.......Apparently they also stand for 1 inmate and 4 walls = 5 dots. Ok so it's just the right wrist I think we've covered the rest of them (unfortunately, I was enjoying this)

RE: Lucas and his tattoos
The entry about the five dots is really interesting. I'm wondering if that had its origins in literature or mythology.

The dots also have another meaning: it can also be that one dot is a cop surrounded by criminals. Fascinating irony given that Lucas was MI5 in a Russian prison. You'd have to wonder how many prisoners actually knew who Lucas was - I suspect it wasn't something his interrogators would want broadcast as chances are it would only make him a a target amongst other prisoners.

And a really gross piece of trivia - apparently, the distinctive bluish hue that Russian prison tattoos acquire is down to how they are mixed and applied. The ink is often made by burning down the heel of a shoe and then mixing the soot with urine.

Does that make the RA fans think twice about kissing him better?

Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature
