RE: Lucas and Sarah - fan or foe?
The Lucas/Sarah relationship is not doing it for me. After 7 eps, all I can think is that O'Reilly is terribly miscast -- the accent sucks, her cloying delivery is dismal, and those "honeys" make me want to fast forward to the next scene. Although this set up could probably work with RA and the right actress, C2.0 is definitely not the one. I agree with all who say that RA is trying his best, but the two just don't click onscreen.
"What is the truth?" "Betrayal is a cancer. Let it eat your soul, not mine." "Please tell me this isn't going where I think it's going." |

RE: Lucas and Sarah - fan or foe?
They don't have chemistry not even to make me believe they at least liked each other. As Kirmostar said, RA could develop chemistry with a rock (hope you're feeling better almh ) so I don't know what is it with GO'R
Sometimes I thought 'this is Spooks, there's no much time to show too much romance or develop it' but if you say with previous character you believed their feelings, then it isn't the writing, is just her. Just look at Elizavetha, the first ep she appeared I wasn't sure I liked her, with the next eps she grew on me, I believed she cared for Lucas and felt sorry for him but knew she had moved on, had a family, he had to let her go. You don't need kisses, bed scenes and/or endearments to believe in a relationship, in Elizavetha and Lucas' eyes I saw caring and affection, that's all I needed. I (and in another RA forum, I've read the same question) wonder HOW was she cast. Did she read with RA at some point? She read alone, they liked her accent , they liked her coldness and emotionless face and believed she was right for the part? She only read the apartment scene from ep 4 with RA - that I must admit that one with the scene where she kills her boss are only ones I like from her- so they thought she was good? LNF (Thank you so much for this rant-thread JHyde, I feel a little better) |

RE: Lucas and Sarah - fan or foe?
I'm feeling really bad reading all this. Because I really liked Genevieve O'Reilly in other things.

But it does happen sometimes that, for whatever the reason, an actor/actress just doesn't sync with a role. And in a show like spooks, with different writers and directors throughout a single series, once an actor fixes his/her character there's not much that can be done to change it because everything builds off the first ep. So you are kind of stuck with it, mistake or not. "What is the truth?" "Betrayal is a cancer. Let it eat your soul, not mine." "Please tell me this isn't going where I think it's going." |

I think so. I admit that she hasn't been great in this at all.

RE: Lucas and Sarah - fan or foe?
I'm sorry JHyde to be so harsh. I've read before and through out this season, that she is a good actress from people that know her from other projects but I can't help it.
Her character *is* interesting, CIA (that most of the time is on MI5 side) agent working closely with MI5, gets involved with one of them, only to find out she's actually a bad guy and not only bad but very involved in this Nightingale thing. She was suppose to fool us all (MI5 and fans), she didn't, not with her relationship with Lucas nor with playing good agent. From what I've heard about her and what I've seen, I can only think she's miscast or misdirected or too focus on the accent or something, that didn't let her perform as good as she could...? LNF |

All the time she says "honey" and "I love you" (notice he never said it to her) just annoys me. Makes me grind my teeth. That's a very good point. Rooftop scene: Beth and Dmitri sneak up and disarm Lucas, cuff him and lead him away. Lucas screams, "No Harry please, I'd rather die!" Harry: "We're sending you to rehab ................. in Texas." |

RE: Lucas and Sarah - fan or foe?
I actually like the character of Sarah and her relationship with Lucas... I think I have just about got over her accent, so I can actually concentrate on what an interesting character she is. I mean I know there is not that much chemistry between her and Lucas but I think that just adds to her character, that she is really cold. Overall, I think it is a really strong storyline and I can't wait to see how it finishes up

RE: Lucas and Sarah - fan or foe?
I think he had more chemistry with the stripper/contact woman from Series 7 (forgot the episode, but she is giving him a lap dance while giving him information while he was in Russia).
