RE: Episode 8 Discussion
Not what I expected but still good.
I think C2.0 did her best acting with just her eyes when Russell Price ordered her to kill Lucas. Thought she showed the right combination of emotions. When Harry said "Someone has to blink" I just thought of Doctor Who! Favourite line was Ros to Lucas when he was setting up surveillance in Lindemann's HQ "Liking the frequency Kenneth" - a direct reference to one of my favourite bands REM. The bitch fight btw Ros and Sarah - they should have picked better wigs for the stunt doubles it was just mad - looked like something from Psycho! Loved the exchanges btw Ros and Lucas "I'd go for Barbados - Bolivia is run by Commies in ponchos and it doesn't have a seaaside" Great writing. Is it just me or was Lucas a bit grey around the temples in the scene where Harry asks Ros to visit the HS? I know he dyes his hair black as it's naturally brown, and his stubble is a bit salt and pepper. Sexy. Sorry........trying to stay on topic.......Harry's face when Tariq came rushing through to Ruth talking about Japanese football bets and they go off together - and even my husband commented "Oh Ruth is getting to go outside?" lol. Thought the action scene in the park was a bit blurred it almost made me sick with the camera movements. Another one liner Ros to Lucas in reference to their search for Sarah "Well even with the attraction of meeting you she's not gullible is she?" A lovely wry smile from Lucas. And on the bridge - if Ros hadn't been there with her gun would Lucas have been tempted into one last "boff" (as Russell Price put it) Just for a moment I think he was. Sweet scenes btw Ruth and Tariq when he spoke about his family in Lahore. In the hospital with Lucas and Sarah when he says "You disgust me" it was like he was trying to talk himself into feeling that way, to override his feelings about her. On the phone with Ros "You hold her hand I'll pull her hair" Spooks has been lacking witty one liners but this ep had heaps. And after Sarah is shot the look on Lucas' face and again when he has her assassin in a headlock his complete grief is so upsetting. I remember RA discussing that fight scene in an interview, how he really injured the stuntman with the trolley! What did Lucas expect to happen with Sarah tho - to start over again - continue the relationship with her in prison? Either way I just wanted to give him a big hug the poppet. Harry and Ruth on the roof, lovely, I think there was a wee moment there that they could have put in a kiss? Thrilling stuff in the hotel with Ros and Price next to the bomb and Lucas racing around searching rooms. Knew fine she would never let Price go. Tariq reminding Ruth not to give up hope. Spooks has never made me cry before but when Ros orders Lucas to get the Pakistani President out, leaving her with the HS and she starts to try and drag him out I'll admit to being a bit teary. Totally changed my mind about the HS, I need to keep reminding myself that I am crap at first impressions! Lucas, what a hero racing back for Ros and what an explosion. And Ros? She'll be fine. |

RE: Episode 8 Discussion
What a brilliant episode.
It was definitely edge of the seat stuff and the cliffhanger was something else - there are potentially 3 people dead, Roz, the HS and Lucas (the force of the explosion threw him up pretty high and far (I know that the camera angle exaggerated this - but lets pretend it's real) his should have been seriously injured and don't forget shrapnel - have just noticed a picture in the Radio Times of Lucas landing on the pavement which could imply he's not seriously hurt, so only 2 dead? Shame about the new HS, I liked him too (I didn't think he was the villain type - he was an overt green - bike in the office - the writers were giving a clue as to his character which ran counter to Harry's suspicions). On a practical note - Roz would have found it easier to drag the HS if she had got him onto a sheet or a bed throw - sorry! Nice also to confirm that SC did fall for Lucas and couldn't kill him. Agree with the comments about banter between the staff - it was good to have it back - particularly Roz's comments about Bolivia - priceless! I think both Roz and Lucas had great stuff to do and say and the increased info on Tariq's back story. Roz will be sorely missed - she has been brilliant this series and was developing a great working partnership with Lucas. The BBC must commission another series - there are so many character developments and plot lines to go forward - Nightingale still hasn't gone away - that was only one plan they had and there were a lot more countries involved especially China. |

RE: Episode 8 Discussion
Good episode, although something felt off to me and I can't figure out what it is. I'm still disappointed in Lucas, even though Sarah is trying to manipulate him to the bitter end he still appears to have a soft spot for her. It's like he was hoping that he would be able to turn her back to the good side despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Further, despite the many witty lines between Ros and Lucas I just don't buy that they're now suddenly best pals and care deeply about each other's emotional welfare. Maybe the problem is that they're too alike - both are written as hard, aloof and emotionally guarded people, making it hard to show believable cameraderie between them. Ruth and Harry was sweet - awww Harry don't cry! Although, if it gets you sympathy from Ruth, maybe you should try it more often. Does everyone want Harry to be their father? First RA said Harry is the father figure whose approval Lucas wants but will never get, and now the HS is moaning about the same thing. Do these people not know that Harry wasn't the best father ever to his own kids? |

RE: Episode 8 Discussion
I'm not sure I'd say Lucas and Ros are written similarly. Lucas has always been written as someone who has trouble separating reason and emotion, and as a deeply passionate person in a way that Ros never has been.
They did have banter in season 7, so it wasn't completely out of the blue. And they did muck around a bit in 8.4. People smiled in this episode and that makes me smile too. Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature |

They did smile I quite liked Ros/Lucas's friendship.

RE: Episode 8 Discussion
Totally agree with Silktie - that Lucas hoped right to the end that he could turn Sarah around, the look on his poor face when he saw her dead in the hospital bed. RA's acting was top notch and I felt sorry for the stuntman in the next scene it was so realistic!

I think Sarah was a bit stupid going to meet him like that... she must have known it was a trap, that he wouldn't just let her go..

RE: Episode 8 Discussion
I have certainly grown to Ros, to think that she might be going... Unthinkable
I also liked the new HS in this episode and I thought he performed well... Spoilers for Series 9 or even a confirmation would be nice "Cometh the hour, cometh the geek" - Harry Pearce [Series 8, Episode 6] |

My mum hates the home secretary, but my sister likes him (she also fancies him... I am worried for her, and am considering therapy for her )
A confirmation would be lovely. Just waiting for it now... :stares at the BBC press office page: DANNY - Placements all over the shop. Back up vehicles, chopper support if we need it.
