RE: Episode 8 Discussion
just finished watching episode 8 - forgot how upset I am that Ros isn't in the show anymore! I've been re-watching and was so relieved when she turned up again in season 7 and then to leave again...I agree that her death was appropriate for her character, but still... Sad

very unhappy about how the Nightingale incident was wrapped up. but that's alright - onto the next crisis!

RE: Episode 8 Discussion
i have just finished watching this series and i still up untill the end of s9 thought she was going to come back! but its the way ros was always going to go, doing her job protecting the country and the rather good looking home sec. ;( i do miss ros something terrible in s9 though

LOVE the relationship between harry and ros in this ep to, the whole was it twitter or cambridge that annoyed you ;-) hahaha.

also i really liked the relationship between ros and lucas in this ep, they really bonded, she understood how he felt about sarah and with her death she gave him the time. even when she was annoued with him for not shooting her she was able to be friendly and have banter with him,

i think that s8 was hard on ros with the whole loosing adam thing, being the boss and also the whole jo thing but i do wish she hadnt died

my only grumble is the terrible effect that explosion had adams was far better!

Haha, agreed. Although with Adam's exit they really blew up a car so the explosion wasn't a special effect. Obviously they couldn't do that with the building unfortunately.

Adam RE: Episode 8 Discussion
Im gutted that Ros was killed off.
Series 9 Spoiler: show
She would have seen that Lucas wasnt who he said he was in season 9. As for Beth not fit enough to lace Ros' boots.

RE: Episode 8 Discussion
Did anyone else notice that the rooftop scene with Harry and Ruth, where he is moved to tears after quoting Schiller's Ode to Joy, parallels the scene he has with his daughter in S3.4? In 3.4 he is moved to tears when his daughter reads from the Yeats' poem, and she then says: 'Dad, don't, Dad. (pause) We better go, it's too windy.' In 8.8 he responds to Ruth's concern for his tears by saying: 'It's just the wind, Ruth'. And, yes, they were both written by the same scriptwriter - Ben Richards. Coincidence? I don't think so! Has Harry cried anywhere else in the series?

RE: Episode 8 Discussion
They are both lovely scenes. I never spotted the parallel before, interesting that they are both written by the same person.

I'd rather see that side of Spooks than any number of explosions.

Ros RE: Episode 8 Discussion
Wow..Exclamation That was one heck of a series finale. It had me in suspense for the whole ep. The storyline was exciting too (for some reason I like the geopolitical storylines quite a bit). I also think that the second half of the season finished off stronger than the first half. I guess I like the second half better than the 1st.

Series 9 Spoiler: show
I read that Ros is dead so I guess I was already spoiled on that. But still the episode still had me in suspense. Anyway, I'm sad that Ros died. But wow I thought the way she went out was written really well (done well too). Looking forward to the next series!! Smile

Cool

No one in UK knows: US SoS (Clinton)?
yes, necro thread is necro. sorry.

First let me say this series is some of the BEST CrackTV ever, and I'll be really sad when I get to the end (thank you Netflix for having it stream-able!)

I know I'm three years late on this..... but seriously. How hard can this be?

At min 19:00 Lucas says, "The Americans are taking care of matters regarding their Secretary Of State, HE is staying at Chequers with the PM, right?" Thud

uhm. That would be Madame Secretary, Hillary Clinton. "She." Not exactly an unknown global entity.

I hate when simple things like this pull me out of an otherwise brilliantly acted, directed, produced, and usually well written episode.

Am I to believe NO ONE on that set knew better? Not at the table read? How did no one catch that??? We're talking smart people educated in the UK, who are exposed to global news, not ignorant Americans. Come on!

Was the episode shot before December 1st, 2008 when she was nominated by President Obama, or Jan of '09 when she assumed office?

I mean, so far, it seems as though President Obama is written as Lord Voldemort - he who shall not be mentioned by name - which is kinda weird, seeing as Bush Jr was mentioned previously. But to ignore "the new regime" to such an extent you even get the sex of the SOS incorrect? That's just lazy.

I think you're reading far too much into this.

It's not a sodding documentary.

No it's not, it's an award winning drama series that prides itself for being up on current world political events in present day Earth.

If it was Game of Thrones, or Fringe in the parallel universe, I wouldn't care.

Are you saying if The West Wing (or similar non-UK show) referred to the King of England, that wouldn't bother you?
