It is funny, in my day (here we go grandad is off again) we didn't have course work, we just turned up on the day and it was pass or fail, when it was introduced, it seemed to be a really fair way of getting a qualification as it gave anyone who was rubbish at sitting exams, (and let's face it who does enjoy all of that stress in one day), an opportunity to gain a substantial element of the required marks to take the pressure off on exam day.
I remember that I did a GCSE in Psychology a few years ago, and did all of my course work during a week of night shifts at the docks, fortunately it was very quiet. Funny how you all are stressing over the coursework, but then I suppose like anything it requires a certain discipline to sit down and get on with it, rather than watch spooks. I know what I would prefer... Cool

Still I don't envy any of you, what I would say is if you get the opportunity to do something that you really want, seize it. Don't let others push you into a career that they think is best for you, there are just so many opportunities now. I would certainly recommend using your gap year to see the world and gain some life experience. Suicida

It is really odd to hear that YFM doesn't like coursework, because like Condor, I thought it sounded so much fairer than the exam only system that we had. But I guess with coursework there is no set end and can take-up so much of your time.

I think that it is actually more unfair this way as you can take it home and get help with it. I know my history teacher has been extremely lenient on the rules of how many times she can look at our work and other people have parents with degrees and things that are willing to help and not every one does.
I know in GSCE product design when we had to make a product I felt very annoyed when I spent months producing a jewellery box that was quite frankly crap but at least all my own work and my friend who had done absolutely nothing all year brought in a perfectly crafted professionally finished one (incidentally her Dad makes a living out of making them - pure coincidence I am sure Tongue

)

YFM welcome to the real world, unfortunately this will happen throughout your life, it seems unfair, and certainly is. In an ideal world examiners would see through the cheats. I don't think there is a problem with your teacher giving you guidance on your work and I feel that this should not be restricted , but I am with you when people openly cheat. I used to be very keen on photography, entered loads of competitions and won several, with what I thought were very good pictures. I used to get really annoyed though when pictures that were technically poor (out of focus) and did not even fit the criteria would get judged higher than my entry that I had spent a long time ensuring was the best that I could produce. The secret is not to let it make you bitter and disillusioned, I know it doesn't help with the exam thing, but you know that you did your best through your own efforts, these other people also know that they were not capable of even making the effort, you are by far a better person for this. Hopefully an assessor will be able to see through this, they aren't as daft as you would think, my wife marks dissertations from degree candidates and it is really obvious when somebody has cheated. So never even be tempted to move to the dark side, and I know that it is a cliche but "always to yourself be true". You can then always walk with your head held high, even if you are the only one who knows the truth. I know, I have been there.

It is really interesting reading what you have to say YFM, I must admit not giving it that much thought before. It must be really hard when such things happen. Perhaps at least an exam system does prevent such cheating and only people that have actually done the work get the credit.
And as Condor says, it is often quite easy to spot cheats, so maybe such candidates don't attain the high marks everyone thinks they do.

Yes one down YFM how many more? Well done. It is frightening to think that somebody so fresh in the memory is actually taught as a history subject... it makes one feel ancient. I'm sure if your subject was on SPOOKS you would get top marks Yahoo

I decided to study 17th Century history to avoid that... did a year of the more modern history course and got irritated at the fact we were so close to now in the years. (Within 100 years).

On that note however i finished my exams on Weds for this year so i am hoping to be around a bit more rather than forum dead... we shall see how my time goes. Smile

Will be nice to see you all again!
