RE: Episode 4 Discussion [rewatch]
(19-01-2010 11:15 AM)Tea Lady Wrote: I dont think Tessa had any real choice though other than to try and bribe Zoe. Harry had already ordered Zoe to do the dead drop instead of Tessa. Tessa is clearly very clever and I would imagine has probably already covered most of her tracks and cleaned the money she has taken from her ghost agents. She hardly comes across as someone planning and wanting to work for MI5 for the rest of her life! She could've just stayed away from the meet, then Zoe would have reported back the agent didn't show and Tessa could then have claimed to have found out that he died or emigrated or something. But she deliberately chose to involve Zoe, possibly because she didn't want to have to "kill off" all her ghost agents and lose the income. I think JHyde's right about corrupt people expecting everyone else to have a similar weakness for money. Interesting that Harry noticed Danny's credit card fraud but didn't notice Tessa's much grander ghost agent scheme. Not very observant of him... |

RE: Episode 4 Discussion [rewatch]
Danny's little scheme with the credit cards was very easy to spot and probably left a trail of some sort. Tessa's fraud was in a completely different league !

Tessa seems to have been playing this game for quite awhile so I'd imagine she had it pretty well sewn up, in terms of leaving traces. If the info was coming in, especially if it was info that could be corroborated by other sources (which it probably was), why would anyone question her? As Tessa said, she kept her ghost agents in odd places and their intel low-level -- nothing really grand enough to garner any attention. "What is the truth?" "Betrayal is a cancer. Let it eat your soul, not mine." "Please tell me this isn't going where I think it's going." |

She behaved awfully towards him. And then to tell Maisie the truth about Tom that was just crazy. Tell a child of that age and the first thing they will do is tell everyone in their class ! Why not just carry on with calling Tom Matthew, it would not matter to Maisie, and then tell her the truth when she was old enough to understand. There is another angle to this, though. Even though we as the audience know Tom as an honourable spy, all Ellie knows about him at this stage is that he lied about what he does, and disappears all the time and then returns with bullet wounds. How can she be sure that he isn't lying again when he says that he's a spy? There is, after all, many known cases of crooks/philandering men using the spy excuse to pull the wool over their spouses' eyes. |
