The most recent of which was only developed in 1888! The only practical application I know these days is court stenography. I don't know if that is monumentally stupid or deviously brilliant!

Thanks Aria I was waiting for someone to get a Spooks link into this story. Re the tradecraft element, I read elsewhere that this spy ring was a set up, made to be detected. The real spy ring is out there, waiting, hidden.

you find out that there is something called "steganography" (it's even the same word in German) which differs from "stenography" (something I learned, practised, and forgot again long, long ago).
I knew the 'art/science' of hiding information in pictures/script existed but I never had a word to attach to it... Thanks Nitrus for the edumacation!!!

That, while the world (and its media) is focused on this very public story, there's something far more covert going on that THEY don't want us to notice.
