New Doctor Who Discussion

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
I caught the easter egg and I loved Sophie Okenedo. Initially she seemed wrong, but I really went with her when it got to her sitting down to the monitor with the 'forget' and 'abdicate'. She played that beautifully.

Typically topical an episode, and I loved the anger the Doctor felt at the idea that Amy made his choice for him. Loved the idea of voting to forget and I loved the intro with the boy getting 'zero', such a great lead in.

I cried at the end, with Amy calling him old and alone and very kind. Classic Who mythology.

I agree that Amelia Pond is a wonderful name, not so sure about Amy Pond. If I know Moffat, that joke will make a reappearance at some point.

MS is doing a good job of being older than he looks, I think. I'm expecting that to continue.

So excited!

i liked the queen Big Grin especially when she said I am the queen and basically I rule or something along those lines. I believe our queen should end one of her speeches with it Tongue

I loved that in essence to the Doctor was wrong and Amy was right - surely that has never happened before to the all knowing doctor lol.

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
This weeks episode, Victory of the Daleks, was brilliant. I was a bit wary of them using the Daleks again after the awesome Stolen Earth episode, but all credit to writer Mark Gatiss.

MS and KG are getting better and better. MS's Doctor was very violent in his hatred of the Daleks. I liked the new multi coloured superior Daleks. The crack in the wall is back and Amy not remembering the events of The Stolen Earth lay a foundation for future episodes.

Loved the interaction between the Doctor and Churchill, especially him trying to steal the Tardis key. Bill Patterson was great and shows what he can do . (Take note Law and Order: UK writers, where he is criminally underused)

Loved Amy again saving the Earth. You go girl!!Smile

I haven't seen this episode yet, but I was impressed by the first two. I didn't think I was going to like Matt Smith but he did okay.
I didn't like the fact that he couldn't arrive back at the right time. He is a timelord and has been 'flying' the TARDIS for hundreds of years surely he can work out how to fly the thing. Don't like the look of the Tardis, looks like a Victorian steam engine!
The idea that Churchill just phoned him didn't really seem right !

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
I find it funny/ironic that despite being a Time Lord the Doctor can't get exact times and locations right. They've already set episodes up like this, DT's Doctor took Donna to Pompei by accident.
The Tardis interior is weird and will take some getting used to, but with a new Doctor, companion and theme music the writers are trying to create a new version of DW.

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
I've only just seen the first episode, but wanted to chime in and say that I LOVED IT! With Steven Moffat at the helm one had high expectations, and they were met quite brilliantly; fish custard!!!! (nothing will top the exploding chickens line in Blink, but it came close!). The new Doctor and Tardis will take some getting used to, but I thought Matt Smith was wonderful. I'm really excited about the new season now!

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
Tea Lady (over on Favourite films thread) just reminded me where I had heard the line "Broadsword to Dannyboy" before, it was in the film 'Where eagles dare'. Does anyone know why it was used in this weeks episode of Doctor Who ?
And why did the daleks soldiers have utility belts wrapped around them ?

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
Watched The Time of Angels, last night. Great episode, definitely the best one of the season so far. The writing was brilliant and the angels were even scarier than last time. MS and KG are really growing into their roles. Loved the way Amy kept teasing the Doctor. Alex Kingston was wonderful as River Song and her relationship with new Doctor MS was full of wry teasing and affection. The Doctor was definitely acting like a hen-pecked husband. lol (River driving the Tardis much better than the Doctor, "Sonic me", "Spoilers")

I kept a keen eye on Iain Glen, who was also in the show, he didn't have that much to do, but what little he did have, he did it well. Hopefully he'll have a bigger role in part 2. He has a beautiful scottish accent and I hope he keeps it for Spooks. Roll on next week!!

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
Just watched the first two episodes and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Matt Smith appears to be a really good Doctor and Amy Pond a good companion. Loved that she was right and he was wrong in the second episode.

Good stuff so far.
