One of the best series?

RE: One of the best series?
I did like this series quite a lot and think the addition of Lucas brings a new dimension to the Grid, but there's something about Ros's return that's been niggling at me since ep 1 that I haven't seen discussed anywhere. Supposedly Ros had to leave (in late S6) because if the Yalta folks knew she was still alive, they'd come after her. The Americans too wanted her dead and sent Hogan to the funeral to make she was really was.

Then in 7.1 she's back, with no explanation. Presumably some of the Yalta crowd are still at large, the CIA operatives are still in London and both are dangerous to her. So what's the deal?

Does anyone remember any talk throughout S7 that addresses this?

It doesn't, but remember that Hogan turned out to be a bad guy so that was all sorted. Plus, if anyone questioned the state of affairs, say the Home Secretary. they could always say that Ros had been sent to infiltrate Yalta. On orders.

Yes, but what about the Yalta heavy hitters? They're still around somewhere. And Hogan's gone but McCall is there, and was in late S6 also (isn't he the one who had Hogan in handcuffs at the meeting with Harry and the South American guy)? I feel like I missed a segue somewhere along the way.

RE: One of the best series?
I was really stunned by how good Series 7 was.

I was absolutely devastated when Adam died, and I couldn't conceive of Spooks going forward without him. But within two episodes, I had forgotten all about it. The series did an unbelievable job of assimilating Lucas into the team, and giving him a compelling back story to follow. Bringing Ros back worked wonders, and her character evolved dramatically into a genuinely credible leader. Jo was great, Ben improved, and the twist involving Connie was brilliant.

And let it be said, episodes 1, 7, and 8 were instant Spooks classics.

Yeah, 7 and 8 were favourites in the entire show's run for me too.

For all those interested, you can now add Season 7 to your Netflix queue! Doesn't say when it is coming out, but you can add it!

Really? Harry's always had a ruthless streak in him.

The killing did not seemed planned. It appeared that they were letting him go back to his job, which would have worked better for Russian-MI 5 relations but then he said something callous about Adam's death. It looked to me as if Ros and Harry just went intuitive at that moment and did the deed. I always enjoy watching the bad guys cash in their chips.

PS Nitrus, remember the episode where Colin died and the guy responsible* asked Harry to take his belt but Harry walked off and let nature take it's course. That was a kill, albeit indirect.

*The actor was in Horatio Hornblower, the ship Dr. who kept feeding laudanum to David Warner--it took me forever to figure out where I'd seen him before.

Rooftop scene:
Beth and Dmitri sneak up and disarm Lucas, cuff him and lead him away.
Lucas screams, "No Harry please, I'd rather die!"

Harry: "We're sending you to rehab ................. in Texas."

I think Harry and Ros talked about killing Katchamov prior to meeting him (they did bring a gun after all) but decided to meet and see what he had to say. K's final comment about Adam was an unfortunate one -- for him anyway!Tongue

RE: One of the best series?
Just a point of clarification: Kachimov wasn't being handed back to the Russians to return to his usual job. He would have been interrogated by the Security Services given his involvement with the attempted strike.

We have been discussing the implications of killing Kachimov on the Harry thread in General Discussion and would welcome new contributions.
