Favourite Episode?
So what's your favourite episode of the series?
I think mine was 3.10. I haven't watched this series for a while but that storyline has stuck in my head big time. It was brilliant and put all the characters under pressure professionally and emotionally. Fantastic Smile

RE: Favourite Episode?
Being a geek I liked "Outsiders" the one with the G & J key... it was very well done, and had everything a good traitor plot needed!

RE: Favourite Episode?
I hate 3.10. Not because it's a bad episode, but rather because Danny is one of my favorite characters from the show.

Spoiler: show
It's not often a TV death bothers me as much as his.

RE: Favourite Episode?
Hmm, this is a tough one as there are quite a few episodes I like a lot. The first one is very good, with Adam's arrival and particularly Harry and Mace's sparring. Oh, and not to forget Ruth's "spook taxis", lol!

I also really like the one with the mercenary - the thing that sets Spooks apart from its American counterparts is that it doesn't flinch away from showing the darker side of the job, as illustrated by the torture of the man and the use of his daughter to force his hand. And of course the subplot with Harry preparing for the DG-job interview provided a lighter note and some good interaction with Ruth.

I also like 3.10 for the sheer tension, it's very well built up from a slow start to that shocking finish with Danny's death.

RE: Favourite Episode?
You're both right to say that 3.10 is a really good episode. It's brilliant how they managed to build up the suspense and tension and then at the very end, Danny's death just blew me away.

For some reason I was thinking that Fiona would be the one to die, so it came as double the shock when Danny died. Plus 3.10 sets up some great moments in the series 4 premiere. Imagine being at a friend/co worker's funeral and all of a sudden you all have to slip out.

"....look at all the cake & presents Fiona"

Possibly one of THE best lines on this show.

RE: Favourite Episode?
My favourite was 3.9 with the mercenary. I think this episode confirmed Adam in his role in the series. The script was brilliantly written and edited, and Adam showed an even darker side to his nature than we already suspected. Now, we saw a callousness and hatred of this mercenary that became almost personal. It made me feel uncomfortable as you weren't sure how far Adam would go - he seemed solitary and at one point unable to see right from wrong. It was alo interesting that Adam only began to question his behaviour AFTER he had got the information about the missile; leaving the question, would he do the same thing again?

You're right. It also showed Harry's darker side, as we see that he is quite willing to let Adam do whatever is necessary to get the information, but to leave him (Harry) sufficient deniability. It was quite funny how Danny went to Harry with his concerns about Adam going too far, and Harry then promptly used the information about the sick daughter against the father. I also thought it said something about Harry that he went along when they used the daughter - at least he didn't leave Adam to deal with that very unpleasant task on his own.

RE: Favourite Episode?
I think Danny was the only one who came out of it being human and decent. The others - Harry, Adam - and Fiona (regarding her contact at the oil company)all came out tarnished by their actions. It's a well-worn formula that one person in a play has redeeming qualities and this worked well without getting maudling. And yes, Harry did support Adam but even that was ambiguous - a lot was being left unsaid - and I wonder if it had alll gone pear-shaped, how woulg he have supported Adam afterwards?
