But Chris Eccleston was an excellent Doctor, so dark and mysterious. He did an excellent job bring the Doctor back to TV.
I have seen most of the Doctors but the worst, in my opinion, was Patrick Troughton (not sure of the spelling). Does anyone remember him !

Eccleston NEVER does more than one series of a TV show.. he's very cautious about being typecast.

I've watched a few with Patirck Troughton and laughed hysterically the whole way through. It was like a really low budget film with wobbling sets and bad acting. Fair play though, they used what they had at the time.

Can you blame him? Look at Heroes, he kept saying fantastic after his stint as the Doctor with the catch phrase... fantastic.

The thing is I think I had read he'd agreed to do 2 or 3 series and roughly halfway through he panicked and spoke with Russell Davies who graciously agreed to let him out of the show. Of course my memory could be faulty on that.

I had also read they had originally offered the role to David Tennant who had turned it down due to not having time to do a tv show.

I was really disappointed that the Paterson Joseph rumor was false. He'd have made a great doctor.

I love Chris Eccleston. I think he's my favourite, but I do love Tennant and Baker too.

Don't forget The Waters of Mars is this weekend, with Lindsay Duncan and....Peter O'Brien for some unaccountable reason. No, you want to talk about an Aussie actor who can't do accents.....

I'm going to try to be optimistic about Matt Smith. The thing is as bad as he throws me off, his companion does worse. She looks like she's really, really young. While that's not a bad thing, I just think it makes Matt Smith look younger.

I didn't think David Tennant would be any good as the Doctor, but I was wrong he was great. Like you bertowud, I am trying to be optimistic about Matt Smith, but.......visually he isn't great (in my opinion !) which is not a good start.
Looking forward to The Waters of Mars on Sunday.

I don't think Matt Smith will be very good, and I agree with bertowud about his companion.. they just don't seem to fit.

Combine all of ^that^ with a terrible new TARDIS design and you've got disaster waiting.

Guess what day I'm on holiday. So typical.

It does seem to be too young now, I agree. I think that when the cast gets too young, you lose something. And that is a really awful TARDIS design.
