and Ros being Ros its possible this was the case! she certainly showed a lot of emotion in front of harry and the others!

It sounds to me like she died in the explosion then.. there's no way she would have survived that. I think the next series will just start without her, with maybe a few mentions of her death and how heroic she was etc.

It is also possible that they could have filmed HN's final scenes last year as part of the Series 8 shoot. The reason I say this is because of those publicity photos which appeared for episode 8.8. and which didn't tie up with the actual episode. There are links on other threads somewhere for these photos. If my memory serves they showed Harry standing in rubble after the explosion and a dusty and bloody Lucas. Clearly, more was filmed than we saw in series 8. The plan could be to use this footage in 9.1. to show what happens to Ros. Hence nobody has seen her filming this year, because she didn't need to. Just an idea.

Hmm, that is actually a rather good idea. I was going to scour the last ep to see if I could find those shots, but as it appears that they were never used in S8, there is every change they will be used in the beginning of S9. Wouldn't be the first time they've used unused footage from the previous series finale in the new series first epsiode - think the extra stuff of Jo and Adam and Boscard that was shown in 7.01...

There are three images, one of Harry walking with dust sort of settling around him, another of Lucas on the ground and debris showering him, and one of Lucas and Harry walking in opposite direction with Lucas with a rather defeated expression. You can find them towards the bottom of the page in that link.

I think it is very likely that they shot those scenes because they knew Hermione wasn't coming back so they needed a resolution scene and shot it with the rest of Series 8 filming.

I'm more puzzled as to why Lucas didn't look any injured in those shots, one would think being knocked away by a bomb blast would at least cause some pretty nasty concussions.

We didn't had a female character like Ros before, SM may be more of a replacement for the Jo character, though perhaps with a bit more backstory and less inexperienced.
