RE: The Identity Thread *spoilers*
I think ITV should be brave enough to give it another series, it was just starting to take off and the end of the last one was really well done.
The writers just took too long letting us know about the characters, especially Martha. They focussed too much on Bloom. |

RE: The Identity Thread *spoilers*
I agree with Naivety - if they are going to brave a new series, the focus should be taken away from Bloom and his story, and more towards the others and the crime of the week idea (which is I believe what it was originally marketed as).
The last episode was far better than the previous, because it wasn't so Bloom-heavy, and itgave the others (especially Martha) more screentime. Tessa deserves more time too, and it would be a shame to lose those two characters if they drop the series. Av & sig by TygerBright, using my screencaps |

RE: The Identity Thread *spoilers*
I will go against the grain here and say I hope it does not get another series. Keeley can do better than this. She doesn't need programs like Identity to make her mark. We never got to know the real Martha and all of a sudden in the final episode, she seemed to fancy Bloom out of nowhere and was possibly suffering from some sort of break down having contemplated killing herself. Where did this all come from? Why on earth would Anthony let Bloom get away with murder? He hated him. None of it made any sense. Poor writing, good idea, poor execution. Run for the hills Keeley !!

An even worse culprit that Robin Hood was for random plot lines that make no sense whatsoever. Still doesn't stop me from wanting to find the good bits in Keeley's character because, well... because it's Keeley And I genuinely did like Tessa. Part of what bugged me about Keeley's character was the very fact that they gave Martha all this baggage. It seems to me that they think it is completely unrealistic for a woman to be successful in her career without all the excess, so they feel the need to pile on the things like the needy and kind of pathetic crush on Bloom (and thus letting him get away, quite literally, with murder), the depression, possible loss of a child(?) and the suicide hints in order to bring her back down. Which for me diminishes her strength as a character, because since we basically never see her in the field - it's always wonder-boy-can-do-no-wrong Bloom who gets the action stuff while Martha flounders helplessly in a bookcase it makes me wonder how exactly she got to be DSI when there's no evidence shown, and thus I don't think she's a good leader, which really she ought to be at her rank. Just saying. Av & sig by TygerBright, using my screencaps |

RE: The Identity Thread *spoilers*
You make some very good points there Nia M. It was like for a woman to become a Superintendent she has to sacrifice her personal life. She has to go without children and a man. She is also obviously struggling to cope with running such an innovative unit and is depressed. It was all just so cliched. Bloom shagged about, stabbed an innocent person in the leg, falsified evidence, nearly got Martha killed and was an accomplice to muder and he just got a pat on the back from the team at the end.

RE: The Identity Thread *spoilers*
Yep, cliched is just the word.
And I really didn't/don't like Bloom. Regardless of the fact that he's blatantly untrustworthy from the start, steals all the action bits from Martha, stabs someone in the leg (and gets away with it!!!), is hand in glove with criminals, and nearly got Martha killed, he's just so wooden. Perhaps that's the actor, I don't know (although apparently he's really good in one of the other things he's done, so perhaps not) but there does not seem to be any variation whatsoever in him. I have previously seen him in two things. One was Queer as Folk where he played an arrogant singleton, who shagged about and treated his friends like dirt. The other was The Wire, where he played an arrogant dirty politician who shagged about and treated his friends like dirt. Like you say, he played the same sort of person in Identity !! |

RE: The Identity Thread *spoilers*
the more im thinking the more i agree that keeley deserves better, i think that if it did get a second series they need to overhal the charactorisation for both martha and Bloom! that also said i think that the signs she liked him where there from the start but it does come out of the blue quite how much she loves him.
i think that this has potential but its not as good a program as keeley and the rest of the cast deserve i mean look at sean the man is awsome and he is more like a SA than an actor in it SPOOKS 2002-2011 - Thanks for the Memory's

RE: The Identity Thread *spoilers*
I find this thread very interesting because the producer for Identity is the same guy that took over producing Spooks S9: Lachlan MacKinnon. Now I can't judge because I have not seen Identity but it sounds like Spooks S9 had a lot of the same problems as Identity.
Did anyone else watch Identity this past summer? Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |
