Spooks over 24 any day. In spite of its faults.
Series 9 Spoiler: show
It makes sense that Ruth is the ultimate betrayer. It would certainly be risky married to the head of service, being a double agent and all. Is she harboring a deep seated grudge for the loss of her family and life before she was dragged back in?

S** that blondie forget the US 'cake' - it's Victoria sponge for the Brits - Huzzar!

Or, so having a different opinion is off-topic ?
Interesting point of view.

Off topic as in we were discussing what we saw in Episode 5 and how that effects what could happen for future episodes.

Your post was basically talking about how after watching one episode of Series 9 that you felt everything was appalling and dull. Frankly it wasn't on topic to what we were discussing as in the specifics of Episode 5, our reactions, and what we think how it could possibly effect later episodes and storylines.

So in that sense, it was not on topic to which this thread is about Episode 5, not about Spooks in general or how it's a poor imitation of 24.

But as I have already expressed my opinion on that matter, you know where I stand.

---------------------------

As for the episode itself, Lucas in command was amazing to see, now if we can just keep that Lucas, that would be nice!

And it's great to see Ruth showing concern over the comms when poor Lucas was being strangled, that was a hard scene to watch! One has to wonder if that triggered any flashbacks for Lucas to when he was in prison like the rain did back in Series 7.

Lucas and Dimitri at the end was cute. And I have to say that I love the bond that Dimitri and Beth has formed, they seem to look out for each other a lot, it's like they know that being newbies, they have to stick together! It's rather adorable! Kinda like watching brother and sister taking care of each other.

But god I hope they keep Lucas in charge for a while because neither Dimitri nor Beth is ready to take over the section as chief.

RE: Series 9 Episode 5 Discussion
Great team-work in this episode - loved it for that alone.

And I still think Maya's in on it. But once again, there seems to be NO chemistry between her and Lucas (sadly), nothing in her eyes. Lucas - yes, definitely, her - no. Unless she's afraid of Vaughan/Michael. And yes
Series 9.6 onwards Spoiler: show
I still think Vaughan will take her hostage and force Lucas to do what he wants, especially after seeing next week's trailer

And yet fabulous chemistry between Lucas and Beth. Interesting.

Great ideas from you all about possible plot lines. How many more weeks of torture?

I have said this right from the beginning of this Season.

But I'm confused now - many seem to think that the ultimate betrayal has already occurred in the previous HS being a member of Nightingale and Hary acting accordingly?

Definitely though Ruth is a different person this Series and there was something off in the (very) few scenes between her and Harry in this episode.

I know what people are saying about Ruth and I was conerned about her being the betrayer before the series started, and yes she has changed, but... I think we are running out of time for her to be the betrayer. There are only 3 episodes left so there will be limited time for a back story when we have the whole Lucas/John thing to resolve as well as the HR thing. Blake was a betrayer but so is Lucas now. He has betrayed his Country by taking that Albany file which has been passed on to god knows who, and he set another officer up. To also throw Ruth into the hat as a betrayer, just would be too much for one series. Ruth has changed, but changed in a positive way. She has grown up and I don't mean that to be patronising in any way.

RE: Series 9 Episode 5 Discussion
I think the dual storyline of Lucas(John) and the Iain Glen character, Vaughn, has a lot of mileage to run and Vaughn may be the next Spook after the shaming of Lucas, or am I talking a lot of tosh?
I really can't wait for the next episode.......

........and yes I know, I really should get out more!

I think now that Ruth is the betrayer as well. There's still too much we don't know about Albany and Lucas/Vaughn to say that Lucas is the betrayer. Lucas passed information to Kachimov as part of a plan to bring him down. It's possible he's also has similar (crackpot?) scheme to bring down Vaughn. Somebody must have told Vaughn how to find Lucas/John.

To me the biggest argument against Ruth as the ultimate betrayer is that it risks antagonizing a huge amount of the audience.

RE: Series 9 Episode 5 Discussion
I'm with Tea Lady here. I can't see in what circumstances Ruth could be a or is 'the ultimate betrayer'. In what way would she betray the team, and why would she do this? It would be completely out of character for her, and everything we have seen in Series 9 so far.

Spoiler: show
We know from the teasers and Ian Wylie's blog in the upcoming episode 7 that they are on the grid trying to twart a hacker. In episode 7 she is attacked while trying to assist a person who is trying to report a covert operation to M15. Which leaves episode 8 which we don't yet know about. That doesn't leave alot of time for her to scheme up something bad against the team?

I stick to the theory that the ultimate betrayal was Nicholas Blake.
