I always felt that the end of 9.8 was an afterthought, (I mean the part after Lucas throws himself off the building). We had Ruth's tears which coud have been for Lucas or for Harry or just a general over flowing of emotion. Then we had that hotch potch of a roof top scene with Harry talking into his phone which quite frankly was just a heavily edited version of 9.1's ending. That had to have been created by computer after Kudos knew that series 10 had been commisioned. Otherwise there would have been another Harry and Ruth scene to tie up loose ends.

I do hope if they're going to use that method again, they do it with a bit more elegance. Wouldn't it be better to film two endings?

The ending was changed due to the uncertainty of RA leaving. He hadn't been confirmed for the Hobbit and as I understand it, if they had said no to him, he would have stayed on at Spooks. The reshoots were because a decision was made and the character of Lucas therefore had to be given an exit. PF said he was recalled back in late July to reshoot the ending. So, it's not entirely the fault of the original writing. As to what the other ending would have been, we can only speculate.

LV R/H - interested in where you saw/read that as I must have missed it. I've always understood that Kudos and the writers knew the value of Harry, so who exactly are the "they" being told to wind Harry down?

Reassuringly though, Sam Vincent's tweets seem to indicate Harry is as important in S10 as ever.

Sorry, this is probably where I admit I should have checked my facts before posting. Angel

I was referring to this article from the Mail Online the bit where he said,

Quote:‘There was a suggestion at the end of series nine that Harry was going to be eased out, but he’s still around in series ten, apparently, and busy. But they could kill me at some point. I wouldn’t rule it out.’

Sorry I made the mistake of remembering the information incorrectly and got, "wind down" instead of, "eased out"

Also in context it kind of explains itself.

Basically ignore that bit of my previous post and I'll go off & practice some Brain Training exercises! Wink

I don't think that the ending was changed due to RA leaving. During the whole of series 9 the writers had done everything to destroy the character of Lucas completely, turning him (or rather that horrible JB) into such a despicable, weak and treacherous creature that there really wasn't a chance for him to reappear in S10.

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
This thread isn't the place to discuss Lucas' leaving and the end of season 9. Please keep that to the Lucas discussion thread (in the actors/characters sub forum) or to the season 9 sub forum.

It will be interesting to see what reason they give for Beth's departure or if they even mention it at all.

Any information on why Sophia Myles quit after just one Season? - I am assuming it was her own decision. I can't see them as having willingly written the character out considering the way they developed it in S9

Wink Old props I think it was confirmed on Twitter Wink
None of these are from S10, Kudos STILL haven't announced anything, neither have the BBC, neither have the writters or the actors,
Only people to have said anything about S10 being the last are Actor profile sites... still not believing anything until Kudos say so Wink

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
Yes, the lady organising the sale confirmed there is nothing to worry about. She posted on the prop sale thread which was set up.

Writers and actors alike have all confirmed no decision has been made by BBC on 11th series. This rather puts us in same position as series 8. We must consider this as good news and not doom and gloom. The BBC must be waiting to see how series 10 goes. This isn't at all unusual and what they have done recently with Silk and Outcasts. If series 10 can keep up the same ratings as series 9 and PF wants to continue, I can't see any reason why it won't continue.

lol, you know Spooks fans grab every bit of info and double dissect it.... how's the brain training going? If I may be so bold, I think PF is referring here to the ending of S9 where on screen the HS is suggesting Harry is eased out of power as opposed to any of the production team/writers/PF actually seriously considering it. I've only ever read interview with producers where it's clear how important to the show he is. Although PF himself has often teased about Harry being killed off, I doubt it's ever been a serious suggestion since S3 onwards I think he cemented himself (rather cleverly) in a pivotal role.

So glad his further quote confirms he's active and busy in S10. God I can't wait

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
Does anyone think that the sale of Spooks props, including the conference table, means either the end of Spooks or at the very least, a fresh new start if it carries on past series 10?
