I did forget to add Stranger Than Fiction, which I loved. Marc Foster's an interesting director, I like all his movies, and they're all so different.

I see bertowud has quoted my post before I got a chance to correct my spelling, only one "n" for Tenenbaums. I watched it again last night. I think it's a masterpiece.

A couple of other masterpieces that I've seen too many times are Room With A View (Bonham-Carter version) and Persuasion (Hinds/Root version.) If I ever got a chance to produce a film, I would hire Roger Mitchell and Nick Dear before I had my first cup of coffee.

When I mentioned Dirk Bogarde in my post last night, I hesitated adding The Night Porter to my list of films. It has often been catagorized as porn but is much more than that. Here's a review I just found, http://www.criterion.com/current/posts/66 I'm adding it now because it has a similar theme to the new Lucas episode where one is psychologically bound to one's former captor.

It's a beautiful, meaningful film, hard to watch but worth it. I see it as answering the question "How sick is sick?"

I like good ol' Wes Anderson very much. I also like Life Aquatic - and I'm sure he's directing Fantastic Mr Fox which is yet to come out here.

I also forgot Shopgirl, which was a movie that could not have resonated with me more strongly than the first time I saw it, mainly because it had definite echoes of my life at that point in time. I love Steve Martin, and I can only hope that spate of terrible movies he made the last 10 years or so is over. I'd really like to read more of his fiction, both plays and more novellas should he choose to go that way again.

I'd also like to add Christine Jeffs' movies - Rain, Sylvia and Sunshine Cleaning (yes, I know, I like a lot of movies with sunshine in the title).

And I am looking forward greatly to Jane Campion's new film Bright Star. I don't think she's made her best film yet. And I adore Abbie Cornish, I've been a big fan of hers since Somersault. Did I say Candy earlier? Candy is the adaptation of a wonderful book by Luke Davies that was also the last Australian movie Heath Ledger did. It also starred Abbie Cornish.

You're correct, the graphic novel is better. It's on my personal top 10 graphic novels list. But I really enjoyed what they did with the film. Also, Hugo Weaving is an amazing actor.

If you haven't figured out yet, I like movies a lot.

Another film I should add since I'm mentioning Hugo Weaving is Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Great movie. General Zod (Terrance Stamp) as a transsexual and Guy Pearce does such a convincing job playing a drag queen, I swore for years he was gay. It's a hilarious flick. I'll never look at a ping pong ball the same way again.

Jude is pretty depressing from what I remember (and there isn't much, it's been 11 years). It was the first place I remember seeing Chris Eccleston. So it does have that. Not a fan of Thomas Hardy books either though.

The first Die Hard movie was great. The third one didn't completely suck. The other two have almost ceased to exist in my memory.

Lars and the Real Girl sounds like something I'd watch.

Goddess of 1967 is the one you've mentioned that I've never heard of. I'll have to keep my eyes out.
