RE: Epsiode 3 = Best episode of all time!!
I have no idea what to make of this episode. The writing was all over the place. There was just not enough focus on Ros, Lucas, and Jo. There was a huge chunk of this episode where Lucas and Jo just completely disappeared. The pacing was incredibly off.
And the ending? Well, needless to say I'm numb. I think this episode was definitely momentum killer for the series. I think the show's unpredictability is starting to hurt it a bit. There's absolutely zero sense of consistency, and I'm starting to miss the days of Series 4 and 5, where we had a strong, plentiful grid. The lack of a strong, clear leader like Tom or Adam is starting to creep up. Thanks Tyger! |

RE: Epsiode 3 = Best episode of all time!!
Can't we just have Ros and Lucas show us that a man and woman can work together as equals with just mutual respect and admiration and no attraction?
OK, time to rehash. For me, this was a bulky script that really could have used a better job on the script editing part. It was an episode with great potential that fell over a bit due to the fact that it didn't kick off until the 30min mark and that none of the main characters really progressed. It was mainly plot, maybe with a bit of Harry/Ruth development (which I love, by the way). The moments that saved the episode: the showtrial by internet vote. Who doesn't think about something like this when they see an ad for X Factor or the equivalent? And what showtrial from accused witches in Salem to hang judges and barristers Stalinist Russia hasn't masqueraded under the guise of "justice"? Ros and Jo. I loved that they slowed it down, those few seconds seemed much longer and they tuned out the noise the same way they did in 5.6 with the fake bomber and his wildly thrumming heart. I can't wait to see where this takes Ros. And I adored the Harry and Ruth moment right at the end. I said earlier how brave it was to let the camera just stay on Peter Firth and let us and him listen to her crying. He's so great. One of the better directorial decisions in a dicey mix. As for Harry not comforting her: he had ordered Jo to go in. How many officers has he ordered to their deaths? He was crippled, and we know well that Harry has his "limitations". Not to mention it would be a little condescending for him to follow her given that she made the choice to leave the room before breaking down in front of him. When you care for someone and you're not really intimate, the last thing you want to do is bawl in front of them. But she was still near enough for him to hear her distress. How exciting is the trailer????!!!! But the short answer posed by this thread's question: no, not really. But I do think this is a season to be judged as a whole, not a single episode. Think album, not single. Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature |

You don't see contradictions in the beginning R/H scenes and the final one? "What is the truth?" "Betrayal is a cancer. Let it eat your soul, not mine." "Please tell me this isn't going where I think it's going." |

Interesting to note: I think this was the first episode in which none of the field officers appeared on the grid.
Thanks Tyger! |

Not a bad episode. They need some new people on the grid. It would be surprised if they went more than a week or two without getting new blood in.
Ros will crack up now for sure. I dont see why she didnt go for a headshot. And why was the terrorist holding the gun at the end of the show after ros had taken the shot. I thought she would have taken control of the weapon. Hope you dont need to use spoiler tags in this thread. lol |

I watched Episode 3 yesterday. I found the whole episode lacked something: as Adam says: the pacing was off: I thought that was because I watched YouTube version. The idea of the 'show trials' would have worked better if there had been a little less focus on the 'trials' themselves, and more on 'our' characters. In some respects Jo's 'expedient demise' was predictable: we just didn't know how it would come about. It was horrific, I agree, but for me, its 'execution' didn't quite work. aus fan has just said: Ros will crack up now for sure. I dont see why she didnt go for a headshot. And why was the terrorist holding the gun at the end of the show after ros had taken the shot. I thought she would have taken control of the weapon. I thought at the time that Ros could have tried a bit harder not to shoot Jo: I too, couldn't see why Ros didn't go for a headshot. Have to say, it will be interesting to see how Ros deals with the aftermath of Jo's departure. The Grid really needs some 'new blood'. |

indeed, the pace was off. I didn't like it as much as the second episode, but the trailer for EP4 highly rises my interest.
