I do agree with your detailed comments a page or so back. As long as they make it credible and in keeping with the story lines then I don't mind too much what happens. As long as they don't just try and cover it all up with a trashy soap type ending... it was all a dream or something as equally lame. Fortunately Kudos have, to date been better and more intelligent writers than that.

Someone mentioned that if "John" luckily got a passport out of Dakar, after what he did, he would not join MI 5. It was the post that said "is MI 5 supposed to be a safe haven for criminals?"

what are the chances that someone's doppelganger is going to hit town just when one badly needs a ticket out? The fake Lucas North is also a suggestion. As I've speculated before, there is no John.

Thank you all for putting Wylie's stuff in spoiler tags as he usually ruins the plot. I never read them until the I've seen the episode.

Supposing the postscript/'cliffhanger like no other' has a Harry and Ruth theme. It could be that Harry asks Ruth if she will become the new section leader and we have to wait until series 10 to find out if she accepts, or maybe she tells Harry that she wants to go back to Greece and she doesn't know if she will come back.

God knows we will need a light hearted end to this series, there haven't been many laughs. Anything will do Kudos!

It would be interesting and I get the feeling a cliffhanger may be Ruth/Harry based too and that Lucas's story might be finished off in the episode
Then again RA says even he has no idea of Lucas's fait so it may go down to the wire with him, we shall find out tomorrow
I just don't want it to be a depressing sort of situation left hanging in the air, like one of them is shot or something and we have to wait to find out if they survive or not

I agree about that, it does need more of an uplifting ending really, this series has been pretty dark, not very lighthearted

Have to agree that a little bit of light relief wouldn't go amiss in 9.8. Despite that I do think its been an enjoyable series up until now. The Lucas/John storyline hasn't really engaged me a great deal because of the somewhat unrealistic aspect of it (I'll avoid the temptation to rant about this again!), but it hasn't detracted from the quality and watchability of the show; I can't think of one weak episode in this series.
Would be happiest if 9.8 ironed out the inconsistencies re: Lucas and, as others have mentioned, didn't end on a cliffhanger for once.

And I make a point of not believing too much of what I read in the Daily Mail!

Same, the Lucas storyline is a little unrealistic, but is has been a fantastic series, I dont think there's been a 'bad' episode this series
and I hope it doesn't end on a another huge cliffhanger... Oh I can just see it now,

I've been reading a lot of the speculation about the last episode and I have to agree that S9 has been quite dark but I'm not sure that we are going to see much light. After all, how much light will they shed on Lucas and where can Ruth/Harry go from here?

I'm hoping they give Lucas a more credible motivation than just wanting to be with Maya. I still don't understand the purpose of Maya. If I were her I'd be running a mile from Lucas at this point - after all she hasn't seen him in 15 years and now he's back she's been held at gunpoint etc etc?

The trailer clips have me wondering more and more about how they could fit together:

Is Ruth taken first, or is she taken after he shows up at the Tube station and then later leaves in the car with everyone shooting at him? Is he more desperate by that point? As for Ruth and Harry, yes, Harry said he would protect her, but would he really be able to? If he saves her then she might not forgive him for ruining himself and for being 'weak' - after all Ruth has become much tougher since 9.1 - seeing the need to make tough decisions even when Harry was wavering in 9.1. Perhaps Ruth tries to stop him making the decision in her favour - she knows that if she is no longer a live hostage then Lucas has no leverage over Harry. She is determined to live but since she feels so dead inside, perhaps she feels its worthwhile to make a sacrifice, especially if Harry is prepared to do the same for her. A final way of showing she loves him? Or maybe she feels guilty that Harry still loves her...

Somehow Harry is asking Lucas what he wants and they face off. So has the plan to use Ruth fallen through?

Has Harry found the best way to save his country and Ruth is to exchange Ruth for himself so they can deal face to face? If Ruth was dead at this point I doubt Harry would be talking to him - he'd want to kill him.....then kill him again just to be sure!!

Aaargh - So many ideas and speculations is driving me crazy. Sorry about such a rambling post....

I don't want Harry or Ruth to die - I want them to be able to have a second chance for Series 10 - even if they do their 'will they? won't they?' routine. It would be a real shame if that partnership ended - and on less of a romance-related note, they are both very strong characters and the show is going to be short of them if Lucas goes.....as much as I like Tariq, he's not a key character yet, and Dmitri and Beth are too new

I think Ruth is taken just after (the clip on the BBC site) 'Fake' Lucas has been captured, and the scene in the tube station is after she's kidnapped, so I'm guessing she's either escaped, still being held captive or been killed, I hope she's escaped.
It a lose-lose situation for Lucas really, if he kills Ruth,Harry will NEVER give him Albany, but in the end of the trailer Lucas isn't asking for Albany, he wants Harry, but why?
I think (Like in S8) thats the way Harry is going to see it, like with Nico, if they killed him he'd still never tell... its similar here, if Lucas kills Ruth he still won't get Albany, but would Harry risk losing Ruth again? If she's dead he hasn't got her to lose any more and I agree, (and holding onto hope Ruth will live) I doubt Harry would agree to meet Lucas on the rooftop if he'd killed Ruth, unless he agrees to give Lucas Albany so then he releases her.
Good idea about Harry sacrificing himself as well and dealing face to face, rather than Ruth being on the line Harry puts himself there, although Lucas is asking for Harry not the other way around, so I'm not so sure about that
But how far will Lucas go for Maya?, I agree with the others before, I don't like Maya really, I mean he's bought her more danger in a few weeks than she's had in any of the years when she actually knew him, he's trouble to her, and I don't really understand her purpose either

As for the wishlist

I hope that exact same thing, I really want both Harry and Ruth in in Series 10, and for them to have a second chance, or a least a chance to fix things, everything between them is frail at the moment, even when Harry tries to put things right, he just can't.
I can't really see Harry continuing on if Ruth isn't there, at least the first time he knew she was alive.
Losing just Lucas I still wont like but if Ruth died, she would be taking part of Harry with her. I don't really want Lucas to leave or die, either, and I can't see Tariq, Beth or Demitri leaving so soon and at least one is going
And after seeing the trailer for this week it seems as though Lucas doesn't want to be part of MI5 anymore any way
