RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
That is a great scene. No one is completely in the right or wrong.
While her little tantrum left a bitter taste in my mouth, Ruth is absolutely correct to point out to him that he is completely compromised when it comes to the Gavrik's. But I am not certain that she has a right to know everything. Does she know that the HS has ordered him to play nice-nice with the Gavrik's? (re: Their personal history does not give her the right to question every decision he makes.) Conversely, she, as always and as with everyone else on the grid, is on a need-to-know basis. He is making the right operational choice (IMO, of course) to bring her into it only insofar as is necessary in order to protect her from as much of the fall out as possible. (re: Their personal history does not give him the right to freeze her out.) They are both being a bit pig-headed, if you ask me. Peas in a pod, those two. Oh, and I loved it when he shut her out by telling her that he had a brief affair that ended in a child. "Happens all the time." (Side Note: Ruth was not around for the Adam/Anna debacle of S6 that might have ended up in Adams child that he then had to burn.) As opposed to their very long "affair" that has so far ended in bupkiss! It was an interesting contrast. Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
I did not notice it at the time. As you put it, it is a cruel remark for Harry to say to Ruth about a brief affair ending in a child. It must have hurt her very much after she lost Nico and nothing has come out of their own "affair". Perhaps Ruth should look for another "George" in the HS office. As long as it is not the HS himself. The surprising consequence of Ruth's sacrifice for Harry was to have at least a few years of a family life.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
I personally thought that Ruth was laying it on a bit thick and was almost prying when asking about Sasha. Yes it's fine for her to be there and want to help him, but that should be on Harry's terms not hers.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
I am not playing Which Character Deserves Our Sympathy More between these two. I understand both their positions, and feel equally sorry for both of them.
People tend to forget that Harry's whole purpose in life is not solely to pine after Ruth and count every word lest he says something wrong. It cuts both ways. His comment about the affair was not meant to be cruel to her in any way, but a way to protect himself from her prodding a deep wound further. And does she truly think that is how he sees her, as good old dependable Ruth and nothing more, after everything that's happened? That was also an unfair comment to throw at him. Neither of them comes out of this looking particularly good, but looking very human. And all this talk about how much Harry has cost Ruth - honestly, she chose this job, she really wanted to have it, and she knew the risks that came with it. Just as Harry knows the risks. They are on an equal footing. |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
Well, we will never agree. Perhaps we could agree that it might be best for Ruth to leave Section D and find a position less morally ambiguous. Spooks would be as thrilling but not as fun without the bickering of Harry and Ruth. By the way, I am not solely interested in Ruth and Harry. I liked the action of episode 2 and hope that we will see more of it in the next episodes. I was holding my breath the whole time and did not miss a longer H/R interaction.
I still think that Ruth was entitled to know some parts of the meeting, obviously not the killing or more personal talk with Elena. Ruth is afraid that Harry is getting too involved and no longer can analyze the situation rationally. Remember when Harry was following Catherine to see what she was doing and Adam got mad at Harry because he was jeopardizing the operation. Adam reproached Harry to be too close to the operation through his daughter. Harry loses his objectivity when the events are related to his family or loved ones. It seems to be the case with Sasha and Elena. The writers seem to enjoy showing the unsavory sides of Harry in just one series. I had really not noticed them before because they were spread over many series. Perhaps it is the plan to highlight the dark sides of spying. I was looking forward to explore Harry's past, but now I am not so sure I want to know more about it. |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
If you watch the boardroom scene at the beginning of this episode, Harry and Ruth make a lot of eye contact during the briefing. There are a couple of times throughout the episode that they are looking at each other when they don't really need to. When the storyline seems so bleak, it is good to see PF and NW keeping the chemistry going.

Yea I noticed that too. I was like what the hecks going on?, Ruth looks pissed.' They looked like they'd just had a fight or like she was itching to talk to him. Nice piece of tension though.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
Maybe I’m totally wrong…but having seen last night’s bench scene, I felt as if they’ve been in relationship for a long time now. Yes, I know we have not seen clear “evidence” of status of their relationship. But I really felt that way. The tension used to be in almost every H&R moments in S9, 10.2 & 10.3 loosen here. There were slight, yes just slight, warm smiles from both of them even. I liked that.
(“You stupid man, people don’t love each other on a need-to-know-basis, Harry.” “I’m not sure that’s always true.” are my favorite lines of the day ) I think they are somehow confident about each other's feelings. (I know they were talking about secrets etc…I’m not probably making any sense.) Because of this, whatever happens in coming 2 episodes, I think I can now expect something nice at the end. Oh I really hope so. |

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
I also think they have been in a relationship during the eight weeks we don't know about. There isn't so much sexual tension between them in this series, more concern over whether they are losing each other. Unfortunately I think the ending isn't going to be to my liking.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth: Back With A Vengeance?
It does have that feel doesn't it?
Series S10trailer Spoiler: show Well, I think Harry's had to let her go to protect her but will have no choice but to ask for her help to get evidence against Coaver. It seems as though it's more of an understanding between them this series, and they already know they love each other, and indirectly are admitting it to each other. Ruth's line "People don't love each other on a need to know basis" was like her trying to say "Harry I love you but you're making it so hard for me to trust you with all these secrets" And Harry's reply "I'm not sure that's always true" seems like a way of saying "I love you but I can't hurt you by telling you everything about my past"... Hmmm maybe it's just my eyes I wonder what did happen in those 8 weeks, this series, it seems as thought whatever happened in those 8 weeks has effected their relationship, in 10.1 they were totally at ease with one another. I don't think they got together in those 8 weeks but perhaps grew much closer, if they'd actually got together we'd see it surely You and I...We're made of secrets-Ruth Evershed S10 "If it was up to me and Peter they'd have done it loads by now"- Nicola Walker |
