RE: Lucas and Elizaveta
I think he trusts her to be loyal to her own country

DANNY - Placements all over the shop. Back up vehicles, chopper support if we need it. Bomb disposal with a signal jammer for Mary’s trademark remote control blasts. And Tom here’s doing the catering. Mate. You are so covered.

I think Lucas didn't tell Elizaveta that he was MI5 was to protect her - well he thought he was protecting her

RE: Lucas and Elizaveta
Much as I would like him to be happy (well, as much as he can be, considering) I don't think it's with her.. As for the trust issue - I doubt he trusts anyone really. I must say, I wouldn't trust her.. wouldn't be surprised if she went into the spooks business for the KG.. erm., FSB.
Still, I would have liked to learn more about the extent and nature of their relationship. I understand that the writers only threw her in to introduce Lucas so no reason to bring her back now that she's served that purpose.
Besides, it's time he moves on.

RE: Lucas and Elizaveta
This is an interesting thread! I thought the actors did a beautiful job - many touching moments between them. When Lucas sees Elisaveta with her child for the first time the look on his face is heartbreaking.

It was my reading that she left him after learning he was a spy. He lied to her, and that broke the marriage. Perhaps very shortly before he went to Moscow and was captured - hence why Lucas was still holding out for her.

I couldn't help but wonder - What was Lucas thinking! He married a patriotic Russian and didn't think him being MI-5 would be a problem? Love is blind..

On the theme of Elizaveta as device to learn more about Lucas, I think she also adds to the tragedy of this character, to emphasize that this man has lost so much.

RE: Lucas and Elizaveta
Spoiler: show
But weren't they still together when he was taken prisoner?
My understanding was that she had no idea he was a spy until then.

RE: Lucas and Elizaveta
Could be. I haven't seen season 8 yet, is more of the story of Lucas and Elizaveta revealed?

They were married, so for Elizaveta to re-marry, they would have had to divorced. So I assumed this had happened before he was captured. I didn't get the sense that Lucas was under the impression they were still married.

Do you know when? Cos I've seen season 7 one too many times and I don't remember that being said.. but with my memory... that's not saying much!

Oh, just remembered.... the scene on the park bench when Lucas asks what kind of conversation they'd be having if he'd been released sooner... the fact that Elizaveta was legally able to re-marry made me think they divorced before he was captured. Small detail... but it made me mis-read the whole thing?

RE: Lucas and Elizaveta
I'm with Nia on this one, I'm sure she didn't know about it until he she was taken prisoner. In which case, she would have been really angry with him and applied for a divorce as soon as possible (I don't know how soon you can apply for a divorce when the spouse is in absentia under British law, but my guess is two or three years. The Service may have even helped her after a point, purely from a practical point of view.)

RE: Lucas and Elizaveta
Yes, I agree with you both. That's my brain for you, though, caught up with the legal technicalities! That's what happens when you watch the show alone and don't have any fellow fans to flesh out those details with. I think I also thought that because Elizaveta was so cold to him.
